Yep, my SOP is balancing my smartphone on the arm of a chair, setting a timer, and stepping back far enough to hope that I'm mostly in the frame.

My Dad's big into photography and lives pretty close by, so when I want a more respectable set of photos I'll stop over and he'll do a shoot.

It’s an app specific to the camera (brand) - I never even thought that there might be generic versions so maybe worth exploring.

Before I could remotely control the camera I used to carry a collapsible lighting stand and put that in the position I wanted to stand so I could focus the camera manually. The app is fine albeit a little limited.

JW, I suspect many folk use their phones now - the inbuilt cameras are really very decent.

I guess things also depend on what you’re trying to show in the pic.

I use a Nikon SLR. Just shove it on a tripod and set the self timer. The camera will autofocus on whatever is in front of it when you press the shutter, so I learnt early on to not stand close to it and then walk further away. Out of focus!

That's why there is always something (a wall, perhaps) immediately behind me - summat for the autofocus to use.Like this:

I generally frame up the pic (get rid of my ugly mug) with photoshop.

Thanks to the mention from Duke, I have just found an android app to control the camera. Nice one - I'll maybe use that in future.

On Friday night we went to Eyewitness Works, a derelict factory for the opening of Phlegm's 'Mausoleum of Giants' we got there early but peeps were already queueing around the block.
I was gutted because there was a limited run of 200 'opening night' prints.

Finally we got to the front..

The models took 6months to assemble, made from plywood frames, covered with segments of card, wrapped in paper and painted.

Holy fuck!

Some 'Giants' were hard to frame having being built into factory spaces and through walls

I still managed to swing a print, Number 89/200, i'll get a better photo when i get if framed up next week

...and a few postcards

The end

Very otherworldly Double0 - certainly looked well worth queuing for - and you get a little more sense of the 3-Dness of the space in the little vid.
That building is massive, about the same size as the puny town in which l live. You'd like Bristol l think (or Brizzle, as it's affectionately known) - alot of similar creativity and space 'reactivation'.

Thanks for sharing.
