The UK isn't the only place, you know. I grew up in a border town in a border state. There were people who fought both over which side of the border the county was going to be as well as where the county seat was to be located. The border didn't change but the county seat was moved--twice.

As far as wants go, I have a list as long as my arm. To begin with, I wish more things came in tall (or long) sizes. But I've really already got a good supply. However, as long as I'm wishing, I'd love to have a pair of vintage Filson breeches. I did see a pair on eBay once but of course they weren't in my size. I think people used to be smaller than they are now. Naturally, if I actually found a pair, I'd have to follow up with a pair of high lace-up "lion tamer" boots, which somebody probably still makes. Maybe pole limber boots or something like that.

I also may note that that the wall is in a sad shape of disrepair, which may account for all the foreigners that we saw in London.

The wall is entirely in England because we wouldn’t let the Romans build it in our country - the other wall (Antonine) which is in ‘the North’ was half the length but took twice as long to build despite only being made from turf and was ransacked quicker than it was built. As for the state of Hadrian’s wall, that’s most likely due to council cut-backs but I can’t comment on the road signs although I’m pretty sure they’re not connected to the walls in any respect.

Were you one of the foreigners you saw when you were in Londinium?

I never bothered much with TV - even at a young age I realised it wasn’t worth a feck and that even ‘Scottish’ (Maynard is likely to pronounce that ‘Scotch’) programmes were produced by the English
