I forgot to mention- We sort assumed that the pocket bag stamp was added around the time that the patent ran up on May 20 1890. Clearly it was added before the patent ran up. The patented #2's we found 10 years ago- didn't have a stamp. |

Who would have thought that- the oldest pair of Spring Pants would be revealed while DenimBro was burning- I lifted this pic from Indiana Jeans IG feed. This was before the patent ran out- Like the #2's we found years before. This says Patent riveted, after the patent ran out- the label was switched to copper riveted. What you would expect to see on a pocket bag stamp- before Levi won 2 silver medal awards in September and October of 1890. dimpled large print patent rivets- the dimple you see started sometime in 1887- when the freemont street factory opened- the women applied these rivets in a different way. I have yet to see a dimled rivet before 1887. The most surprising feature is the slit side pockets- The brown twill Spring Bottom pants that appeared on Denimbro- a year or so ago- dont have these slit pockets. I took some pics of the brown twill Spring Bottom pants- Those will be up next. |

After looking at the spring bottom pants in the King of Vintage book, I don’t think there is any way to prove there from the 1905 time period.
I think we’re looking at the late 1880- 1895 time period, evolution. |

We pretty much have, the rough outline of the spring bottom pant evolution, from 1889-1905?
We start with the Pant-that’s already posted in another thread (some weeks back) Then we can go with, the brown spring bottom pant that’s on eBay now Then we can go with the spring bottom pants from the king of vintage book I’ll add in what I know about the label changing in the mid 1890’s Add it altogether, and I think we have it. I’m still waiting to be trained up on a pc computer If anyone wants to move those spring bottom pant photos over to This thread, have at it. If not- I’ll get on it- in the coming weeks |
