Low if you're a welder.
High if you're an artist creating an installation that requires welding.

Yeah, well, luckily Blondie had gone easy on the hair spray that morning...  Thing is, it's been a while since I looked up to the ceiling in a restaurant and observed the tell-tale soot marks of a Steak Diane or Cherries Jubilee gone all five-alarm.

Miss that.  Dining out has gotten too bubble wrap as of late.  Got to bring back the flames to the people.

Oh how true this is.. A few years ago a silversmith friend of mine said that the university was going to replace one of their huge bronze bells that hadn't rung for a 100years or so and he had given the project manager my name. Truth be told ive never done bell moulding before but i know everything there is to know about the process and practically i could have done it with one hand tied behind my back. I suggested they use the only bellfounders left in the UK but they wanted to do the entire project on site as part of a working demonstration. The first day the project manager didn't know her arse from her elbow so i talked her through the process, I knew they'd never find anybody else locally who would take this on, after a week or so of daily phone calls her questions became quite technical but on they went until one day they suddenly stopped. I assumed they had lost the funding but it transpired that they had decided to fly in an 'artist/sculpter' from NY who 'created' the moulds (i would have simply just made them) they went on to melt the bronze which they cast into the top and it ran straight out of the bottom and all over the floor, he took his 'undisclosed' fee and fucked of back to New York while they cleaned up his mess.

I hope they paid you a consultancy fee for your input Neal.

Was it the Whitechapel Bell Foundry (of Big Ben fame) that you recommended? That was just down the road from where I grew up but I think it's closed down now.

It was John Taylor's in Loughborough, even they've been in and out of administration for years.
Did you ever get the chance to tour Whitechapel Bell Foundry? I bet it was ace!

I think we saw every episode back when it aired- I can't get myself to ever watch it again for some reason- seems so dated.^^^^

Yeah we liked NE too, I don't think its ever been shown over here since.
We was reminiscing recently when we saw 'Maggie' in Cliffhanger we could only stand 20mins though, the only good part of that film is John Lithgow hamming it up.
