100% 501's. It's missing the back patch so I don't have a photo of that but here is an album:

Care tag also says 12 8 6 which I'm pretty sure comes out to December 1978.
Not sure if it's a defect but it's certainly weird.

I think it falls in that bummer category- they should be redlines and there not.

Bummer

Thanks a bunch. Kinda interesting that there were defects like this in the late 70's. Not too annoyed as well for getting this since I only paid $30.

Does anyone know anything about the Levi's Leather Tab that were sold in Europe in the mid to late 80's. I can't find any information about them. I remember having a pair of Leather Tab in the late 80's. They had exposed rivets on the back pockets, with zipper, leather patch and the little leather tab.

This pair is an example:

Today I found some 1983 American cutoff shorts on eBay very similar to these Leather Label, but they are Red Label.

I run across these thrifting, not often, 1 or 2 pairs every 6 months. Don’t know much about them.

Found this Levis type three from a thrift store.
- Orange small e Tag
- marked 70505 0217 in the narrow paper neck tag
- copper back buttons
- Single stitch waistband
- No wash tag whatsoever  - and looks like there hasn't been any, although rest of the clues suggest that there should be one? Also the code is your regular Type 3 Red Tab code  - but was it used with Orange Tag as well? Nevertheless, I am thinking early 70's - what say you?

yeah, that's where it should be but it looks like there either never was one or it was somehow surgically removed

Hey guys!

Thanks for the infinitely helpful resources. By looking at the first posts in this thread and other replies, I was able to date my 501 STF between 84 and 87 (most likely 87 looking at the care tag). I got it deadstock with original « guarantee » tag stapled to backpocket and original store tag from Millers Outpost. However when I got it in hand, a few things looked odd. Thought I’ll share it with you to gather your thoughts :)

  1. The buttons: The back of the buttons has this kind of beveled edge, which seems quite unusual (although it appears in 1982/83 in the first post)
  2. The inside of the buttons: I’ve never seen button with black coating like this.
  3. The stitching: in specific areas, it looks a bit dodgy (inseam, pocket, diamond on the arcuates)
  4. The red tab. I can’t explain it precisely but something feels weird about it

Overall, the pair looks good, the fabric feels strong and fuzzy and looks really legit, so does the care tag and other rivets. I really don’t know what to think about it now. So what do you think? Is it genuine?

It’s legit, somewhere here is the link- that gives the factory numbers...515 is the button number( and that number was used by a certain factory) it was made in June 1987. 067= June 1987

Edit- Not Legit
