Doesn't surprise me that there is something of an increasing market for these. The denim feels awesome, very stout, stiff, crispy, hairy. Better than a lot of the newer selvedge pairs and frankly they feel better than some raw LVC 1947s I've handled. These would age nicely with wear.

They look like a very decent pair of jeans!

Try explaining to the denim shops that you want an authentic 1984 era non-chainstitched non-Union Special hem...
I'll endorse anything for cash

Good find trapp, the back belt loops (not the middle one) and patch placement are quite unusual. The green rivet looks cool, is that oxidisation?

Thanks! That's oxidation on the copper rivet. The jeans, while obviously unworn, show some 'shelf wear' including superficial oxidation on the hardware.

I couldn't tell if the belt loops were placed differently or if the position of the two horse patch, which looks more centered than usual, was giving that impression. I haven't check them side by side with other pairs.

Gentlemen, Hello. With great pleasure I read Your forum, thank you very much for the interesting information. In Germany, bought 501, the seller said he bought the pair in 1983. A little earlier there was a photo like Levis. This is a 110 anniversary model made on 28 " looms. There is whether what any more detailed information on this series of? Regards

When i see the 501 in red- I think early 90's. It would seem that it started in 1991- and ended  in 93-94?
Another thing that happens is- the paper that's used for the label- A sort of carmamel color label comes along during this red lettered time period- then the paper seems to change again in the late
90's.

The wash tag that you will see during the red number years.

Always helpful when you find these in the back pocket.

Edit- read page 1- these observations are mostly bullshit.

Doc and I was talking about the 1990's label change a few years back - Levi was going away from
inking the words-" Care instructions inside Garment"  Doc H thought this was changed sometime in 1991, that seems about right, we know from the example above- it was changed in 1992, so we will go with 1991 until we know otherwise. It would also seem that the new wash tag was added around the same time as the label change.

The new label change on top- note the number 501 is still being inked- most likely this was first replace with the printed 501 in red- sometime in 1991-92.

Here is the late 80's style wash tag on the new label change- button number 552

501-4 by bottleswest, on Flickr
501-5 by bottleswest, on Flickr

Here is the new 1990's style wash tag being used on the old style label as seen in the first picture.
I would assume that some factories had some cross over- this button number is 532
