Do not agree here, that's just a coincidence. Rey went after Finn because BB8 recognized Poe's jacket and thought he'd stolen it... uhmmmm.. I stand corrected, that is racist! Wink

Probably a reference to the novels.  Luke's son is named Ben, and Han and Leia's oldest son joins the dark side.  Probably a combination of the two for the movie.

Loved the movie, loved the nods to the past- hell, they even through in Porkins!!! Remember the new stormtroopers aren't clones at this point. Like Finn, they've been taken from their families and raised by the First Order. All the OG ones would be in their 70s- well then again if Han can do it so can some clones lol

I just hope Poe isn't Sith (how'd he get off that planet/survive that crash?), Finn isn't Lando's kid (don't need to reprise every character. Let alone the fact that I'd hope there was more than one black family in the whole universe!), and Snoke doesn't turn out to be Jar Jar (all the Jar Jar Sith rumors kill me).

Can't wait for May 26, 2017!!!

Forgot about that one, I agree.

Let's hope Rian also brings Joseph Gorden Levitt along, as he is in all his films (even in the Brothers Bloom)

My other big gripe (next to Chewy and Leia ignoring each other) is the limited functionality of the Starkiller planet. In EP4 they had to wait to align the Death Star to its target. As the Starkiller (Deathstar 3.0) was a planet with its own spin and orbit, how do they aim? They made it look like load and go. And what if the target is really far in another system far far away? They also said it took its' power from a sun, depleting it in one loading session. What if all the nearby suns are depleted? Doesn't a dying star cause a Supernova?
I know it's a sci fi fantasy story with a lot of 'mistakes', but this one for me is hard to forgive...

 I enjoyed it.

r2 D2 being in 'low power mode' ... that is from a marketing meeting, we can sell the force awakens versions of R2-D2  AND (!!!) a BB-8 to every collector that way.  R2-D2 is a robot, but no one in the galaxy can make him work, or plug him in, or 'refresh' him.  That whole aspect was to sell action figures and bb8 roomba vacuum cleaners on QVC for Christmas.

Other than that, I feel any gripes I have could be chalked up to 'it's a movie... they have to appeal to 8 year olds and 80 year olds.'

I've just been to see it with my 8 year old and my 5 year old. My elder girl didn't like the first ten minutes, yet my son loved it. I was wary of taking them but it turned out OK.
(What's that screaming....)

Only joking.
I just enjoyed it as a kids film with some fanboy nods. It's not Goodfellas, but I can't watch that with my kids....
We also watched the Charlie Brown movie on Christmas Eve, and that was pretty shite, in my view.

Okay I'll chime in too.

I saw it in Imax 3-D and over all you get you're money's worth.

Was it better than ep. 1-3?  absolutely.

Was it exactly like ep. 4?  Absolutely.   It starts with a desert planet,  secret plans hidden in a droid, A guy in a dark mask tries to torture the rebel for the info.

So many exact plots from episode 4 and this one it's ridiculous.  I get JJ didn't want everyone to hate the movie and since everyone loved 4 why not just remake it.

That Nazi thing was also ridiculous.  Really?   The long red banners and the yelling general, the storm troopers raising their fists at then end?   I know JJ thinks he's the new Spielberg, but at least Spielberg used Nazis' (and he used them a lot) during the time there were Nazis.

The Hologram Giant supreme leader looked like Gullom's dad.

Old lady thing (luke's lightsaber) looked out of a Disney Kids show.

Han's big scene was just like Obi's from ep. 4

Poe looked straight out brooklyn.   Way too NY for star wars

Irish speaking characters?  Come on.   We're use to english accents, but Heavy Irish?

And Greg Grunberg?  I know he and JJ are friends but it really pulls you out of the movie.

I won't go on as the list continues, but in the end I did enjoy the film.   Was it great?  no.   Did is suck? no.
