Turn inside out, and soak them before washing, should minimize the discoloration... don’t machine dry

Hi,
This is a question specifically to the bros across the pond.... I have a pair of LL Bean duck boots, which I have worn until the heel now needs replacing. I am aware that LL Bean no longer has a lifetime guarantee service and I am happy to pay $38+ postage to and from the US. Ok here's the rub I have had some correspondence with the customer service dept. and no one can guarantee that I won't be charged customs back in the UK. I am not purchasing the boots from the US, just sending them back to be repaired, so this is a service and not a purchase, so why should I incur customs charges a second time. Does anyone know if there is something they can stamp on the package which would make me exempt from paying a custom charge? Can someone please help me out. Thanks in advance.

Declare them as a gift with a $20 value
Customs on $20 shouldn’t be much? |

I don't have a customs form handy but I know there are various options on there regarding the description of the contents. Hopefully one of those would suffice to avoid the unnecessary charge.

Thanks Sansome but I've already asked that they declare it at a nominal charge and they declined as it is illegal.
Thanks CSL, but how would I convey this information to LL Bean customer service? I would like to think they would be privy to the same information as you. |

I know the post office lady fairly well, at my local micro post office. I’ll ask and see what she thinks is proper. |
