Hi, just came upon this site based on my question. Thanks for keeping a forum up on denim.
I have ordered a pair of Sugar Cane 1947's and I did not opt for the jeans to be hemmed in factory. They're already One Wash and I have a local tailor. My question is, and I know this may be day one stuff on the one hand and every one has their own look on the other but, based on images I've seen of selvedge/premium denim, the cuffs tend to be rolled. Does this indicate unhemmed is the way to go? Or do you typically have to hem and allow for the cuff? |

Hi Gruelgle,
It depends on how tall of a cuff & how many rolls you want. Some prefer turned up just once in which case you'd probably want to add two or three inches to your actual inside leg measurement. I've seen some folks go cuffless & it can look ok. Just depends on what you want & what you feel suits your look. Hope this helps. The other thing to bear in mind is that it requires a special machine to get the roping effect on a jeans hem. It's different to a standard flat pants hem. Places like Self Edge, Blue Owl & other good denim stores have these machines & will do an authentic correct hem for you.

Does anyone know when Scoville zippers stopped being used? I know they were used on 501’s in the 50’s and 60’s.
