Does anyone know what these front belt loops are for on these LVC?
I recently thrifted a pair of Levi’s chinos with the front belt loop and I’d love to know the purpose of it. I’m thinking if people want an offset buckle? But these have suspender buttons on them.. |

Good question! Your answer is probably correct but it's something new to me on jeans. How old do you think they might be? As for the belt loops and suspender buttons on the same pair of pants, that's normal. All of my pants that came with suspender buttons have belt loops, too, with one exception. The lone exception is a pair of (I think) Swedish army pants that only have suspender buttons. But they have a drawstring at the waist and Velcro on the side (cargo) pockets. Velcro has been around for something like fifty years by now.

I wasn't done with that message yet! I once had a pair of pants that I bought in Germany in the late 1960s that had a little loop right in front where the waistband fastening was. I guess the idea was to put the bar or tab of the belt buckle through the loop so the buckle would stay in place, front and center. They were hip-hugger flares. Very fashionable at the time.

Yeah, a loop for your belt makes sense but right where it’s placed doesn’t, to me. I think it miiight be for pocket watches.... belt loops with suspender buttons is not surprising to me but the front belt loop with the suspender buttons was weird because why wear a belt if you have those buttons in the way? And that photo is recent. The pair I thrifted are actually Levi’s Made and Crafted which isn’t an older brand by any means but the design is obviously older. Some really cool details on them but it’s the front belt loop that I don’t get yet.
I’m probably going to rip off the suspender buttons ;-/ Do you think the belt loop is supposed to cover the buckle or ...? |

No, I doubt that. It's odd, in any event.
