I do, and if I lived west of the Mississippi would be doing it a good bit more. I will make it to California one day (maybe Big Sur) and sleep beside to the ocean under the stars.

The US has a great attitude towards wild camping and the weather for it, Here in the UK all the countryside is owned by private land owners or The National Trust neither appreciate tents so discretion is key.
How do other nations get on? Im partial to Snow Peak kit but know little of Japans camping scene, could i camp on Mt.Fuji for instance?

I haven't camped since I was in this church scout group as a teenager.

I used to be able to do the whole thing, one match (2 really) fires, all of it.  We'd go out and use fallen brush and lash up chairs and other 'furniture'.

I enjoy being in nature, but sleeping under the stars is not my cuppa.

Out here in the Northeast US I regularly camp under the stars.  Year-round.  20degree below zero (Farenheit) down sleeping bag is key.  I use a bivouac Bag to keep off frost etc.  I have been trying to get my son into it, but he is hesitant.  My Father and I always went minimal into the woods.  For next season I am in search of a Bro-like insulated boot.  My un-insulated Whites this winter were a little crisp for my toes.  Cheers.

Yeah its a father son thing for us too, got him into it early at 2years old. Moms not the outdoor type. I have an Alpkit 3-4 season down bag for the winter and a Marmot bag thats packable for the summer months.

Easton 3 man tent, 4 season and 5lb, in the compression sack its 20"x 8" so fits in my pack. The brazier is an old van wheel spot welded to a table.

Sun set over the Peak District.

Great shots DoubleO.  I think its great to get kids started in the outdoors early.  My son has always felt at home outside.  I will have to load some pics soon.  I have been slowly introducing my son to snowshoeing last year.  He loves it.

You need to check out the Lemonheads' version of Outdoor Type. I particularly love the line about
"Sorry I can't go away on your rock-climbing weekend
what if something's on TV and it's never shown again?"

(and we love camping. Altho I like the fact that modern technology has brought us pop-up tents and airbed inflators).
