i'm surprised also. i treated it once a long time ago with tender's mutton tallow grease, maybe that helped?

the supposedly nos cat's paw heels are also as soft as butter. so the effects of my john wayne gait could also be exaggerated. :P

I used to think wear like that was from driving. Two shoe guys have assured me that it's how I walk. For awhile I was over conscious of my stride resulting in a slightly goofy (though not quite John Cleese-esque) walk. I think I'm pretty much back to (ab)normal now.

This summer, I finally wore through the cork soles of my LL Bean Katahdins. I bought them slightly used eight or nine years ago. I wanted brown cork, and that's no mean feat these days. I had been looking at the offerings from Dr Sole, and finally ordered some yellow dot half sole & heels in brown and black. The components were not terribly expensive, but shipping about doubled the bill. My guy was quite happy to do the job. He's got some very nice welting machinery that I don't think he gets to use as often as he likes. The wait time ran a little long, and I think he was a little embarrassed as one of the soles came out slightly crooked. I didn't mention it, and he charged me all of 45$ for the whole job. If they were thousand dollar boots I might have been peeved. For hundred dollar boots approaching their second decade, they are perfectly fine. I also like that the original Gro-Cord Tapper emblem still shows under the new half sole.
My coat has nine buttons, but I always fascinate.

That's actually the look I had in mind. Also what it took for my wife to wrassle me out of bachelorhood was very Sadie Hawkins.

LOL  Sometimes a gal has to take matters into her own hands, especially when there's a danger of too much shoe-gazing.
