I am so happy that it's staying in SF. I think that the NorCal location had a lot to do with the awesome atmosphere of last years event. There is too much of a 'scene' feel in LA.

Right now I'm in the "planning to plan" phase.  Then comes plotting.  It'll be a few weeks before the planning phase, but it's coming.

If I am able to come I'd be there Friday and Saturday night and would probably need a hotel or a 6 foot by 3 foot section of someones floor.

Shoot me a pm and we can talk a little more about it.

I haven't said before, and won't repeat it, as it's meant to be semi-private, but on Sunday August 4th I'm planning an informal get-together for the exhibitors, hosters and attending denimbros at some SF brewery, location & time TBD.
It isn't on the flyer and wont be publicized, but all denimbros are welcome.

Some judgements I hope to work in at the door:

"You, but not your friends."

"Not in those shoes."

"Not going to happen tonight. May I recommend the Olive Garden on Market?"

I booked my trip before this wonderful idea came about. Hotwire won't let you change dates, only extend a trip. I can change my flight for a small fee and fly into LAX on the 30th or 31st but I'd need to be in San Francisco on the 31st for my hotel stay.

Booked and booked.  Big smile  La Meridien near the Embarcadero.  One of those secret deals, you only know the area and number of stars until you book.  Looks way too modernistic for my taste, but quite probably free of cooties and bums.  How's San Francisco for cigar smoking?  I didn't really check the last time we were there, but I'm down for a herf this time around.

It's not so great. The main tobacco shop downtown "Grants" has closed. So you will be left with liquor stores or some head shops have decent selections sometimes. Otherwise you have to go to Telford's in mill valley to get an kind of selection. So if you have a favorite I would bring your own.

As far as smoking, that's hit or miss I find. Especially with cigars. Few bars have patios and then trying to smoke a cigar can be a challenge, especially in a crowded bar. Just need to find a corner.

I hate that I am still anticipating employment. I am quite close, But unable to make any solid plans, book a hotel, et cetera.

I am still thinking it may be possible, and if it is I need advice/help on making travel arrangements.

Where to stay, if I'd need a rental car, how much money is reasonable to expect to spend on food?

I NEVER travel, and 99% of the time when I do I don't worry about any of this crap because I am visiting relatives who feed me, and  have a hide-a-bed they insist on me sleeping on.

If anyone is able to make suggestions for affordable (safe/cheap) places to stay, et cetera I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also -- if anyone going has room on the floor of their room I'd totally toss some money your way should I indeed be able to come out.

Near AB Fits is tricky- they are in North Beach which is prime tourist destination neighborhood, and therefore fairly pricey. You may find some bargains downtown if you search for a bit.
There is the metropol hotel on Divisidero which is decent and affordable by SF standards.
Also the Twin Peaks on market street is affordable and not far from my place, and of course all denim bros are welcome to drop by during denimbruin.

Good new and Bad news…

Good News- LVC has chosen the Atrium at Levi's Plaza in San Francisco as the spot for their showing of historic garments from the Levi's archive!
This is only steps away from their archive, and is the hub of the Levi's empire.
The event will run from 7-9.
Their archivists will be on hand to display and discuss the pieces.

Bad News- Denimbruin stalwarts Blue Blanket Jeans will be unable to attend this year after all. They send their regrets, but an excellent business opportunity is presenting itself to our Italian friends which might allow them to grow their business enormously, and they will be occupied in negotiations for much of early August.
They have restocked AB Fits fully with all of the BB products they normally carry, and their repro collaboration with Mike & Charla Harris will be present at both the  Jack/Knife and AB Fits nights for perusal and a very limited number will be for sale at AB Fits.

I was at Levi's Plaza today, so I took some photos to post for a brief tour of the space where LVC will be presenting their archival show on Thursday, August 1st.

This is a view of the main building and plaza from the rooftop garden I tend on the other side of the plaza, in a building once also occupied by Levi's. The Atrium is the glass fronted stepped pyramid directly over the Levi Strauss & co. name.

These are two views of the atrium from inside. The interior windows front onto actual Levi design & office space. You can see some sample garments and fabrics hanging in the windows.
The atrium is open up to five or six floors inside and has a wide footprint- its really a massive space, and will be the largest Denimbruin venue to date.

One lower wall of the atrium houses a rotating collection of glassed in archival garments. On display now are a pair of 1890 501s and the original Homer Campbell 1915s that LVC reprod in 2003. To the right is a vintage loom in working order.

Off of one corner of the Atrium is the entrance to the Vault exhibit, which in turn is the gate to the actual Levi Strauss archives. On display here are the Bunkhouse 501s, a very early xx jean, a wool Sunset shirt, and a collection of shirts spanning from the 1920s to today.
On the screen you can see Lynn Downey talking about and displaying a very early xx jean. Visitors on the 1st will be able to see this same thing happen, but in real life.
I am not allowed to divulge more details about the night, but if my LVC contact has his way, this is going to be a very grand night!

I am not allowed to divulge more details about the night, but if my LVC contact has his way, this is going to be a very grand night!

the good-  I will be in attendance for all Denimbruin events this year!  (that is if u let my punk ass in) Can't wait to re-unite with old friends and meet some new ones.

the bad-  I arrive in SF on the 31st and don't have a ride from the airport.   I get in around noon Wed if anyone wants to rescue me.  I'll buy lunch.  ;)

Stoked to catch up, Aaron! It's actually a very painless and cheap trip from SFO into the city by public transit: BART. If you follow the signs in the airport for BART, it'll lead you right into the station. All you need to determine beforehand is which stop is closest to your ultimate destination. If you let us know where you're staying, I'm sure we can help you determine the right stop!

If I get the winning lottery ticket this weekend - you can bet I'll be there!

Looks really good chaps, how about bringing Denimbruin on tour to London next year. Paul T will host in his vast, park-like back garden.

Meanwhile, I can be at Heathrow Airport on 31 July if any kind soul can give me a lift from there to SF...
