We seem to have very little here on the Osaka Five. I'm a big fan of SDA and Full Count, and noticed I had nowhere to post them, so this thread seems as good a place as any.
I'll update this post with some links, and more photos. But for now, here's a shot of my current main pair, the Full Count 1108 - a fantastic interpretation of the Levi's late 60s look - and the SDA 103XX, the natural indigo version of their take on a 1947 cut.
Both SDA and Full Count often get overlooked; yet SDA were on the scene well before Evisu, and were pioneers of Japanese denim (much of their early fabric was made by Nihon Menpu). Full Count arrived around a year after Evisu; they've stayed pretty small-scale and consistent over the years in comparison.
The 1108 (top left) is a very subtle design; the denim is hard to wear in, subtle slubs, very different to the Japanese denim that's designed to wear in quickly.
The 103XX (bottom left) is one of the darkest natural indigo jeans you'll find. Again, very tough to wear in, and the interpretation of the fabric by Nihon Menpu is very similar to Cone's 1947 repro - very grainy, with lots of weft showing through, and once again, very subtle slubs
For comparison's sake, I should have shown this pair alongside the LVC 1947. I seem to have lost my pair so, just temporary like, I've included the LVC 55.

Very nice Paul- these brands definitely don't get enough attention. I'm particularly curious about that SDA 103xx...

The Osaka 5 include Warehouse and Denime too? Might want to roll the Denime and Warehouse threads into this one, since they aren't very big yet. Love the wear on the SDA's Paul.

Would be very interested to see that Pablo, especially after my visit to 'Son of Stag' a while back. Whilst I was having a sterling hemming job on my Bartack's and SC47's, I was introduced to the 1101(?) - the 40's model? and the 50's model too. They had the (sort-of) arcs and red tabs, which unfortunately had to be cut off - something to do with the Lvc rep getting upset apparently.

Yes, but at least you were getting some serious quality, at least that was my conclusion after a fine tooth-combing. Lvc are nearly that new but fall way short quality-wise.
Maybe that was why the rep was a little upset

The 1101 is nearly indentical to the 0105 in the top block, but more taped below the knee. I always felt the 0105 to leaned more towards the 50s 501, the 1101 the late 60s 501, and the 1108 more of an altered 40s cut. The leg shape of my 1108Cs felt much more like my LVC '44 and '47, than my LVC '66s. The 1108 is very trim from the thigh down, and I had to get rid of the pair I had. Too big in the waist, and too narrow in the thigh.

Full Count is one of the Osaka5 brands. Founded by Mikiharu Tsujita in 1992, right after Yamane founded Evisu. They mostly use 100% Zimbabwe cotton denim.
Some Japanese stores classify the 1108 cut as a 66 cut. Some guys say they are more like a '47 (slim straight with a higher rise).
At least it features typical XX/40s details.
V stitch at the top button
Hidden rivets
Leather patch
and some more, like hidden coin pocket selvage
Now to the denim. The XX version uses the 15,5oz denim made of 100% zimbabwe cotton. The selvage lamé has a pink/salmon color
The denim is quite hairy. I like it a lot
The weave isn't too regular and there are light slubs in the fabric
And first signs of fading |

Been wearing my LVC 1890s for most of the summer. But took advantage
of the last of the summer sunshine to wash my FC. HEre's a few quick n
dirty shots. (Literally... didn't get all the dirt out). TOok the FC out to Morocco with me... now that's some proper wear.
Comparison
shot at the end is with LVC 47 and 55, both of them two or three
washes. THis was the 1108's first machine wash.

Proper Paul!
On another note: I have always wondered why folks seem to always go for the SD 103 rather than the 101. The 101 is the full cut correct. I have always wanted some SDAs and I think once I am done with the blacksmiths I will hop into some.

The 101 is the full (50s) cut switch, although the 102 is even fuller! They are great jeans in my opinion and pretty much the perfect cut for me. I have a few pairs actually so would definitely recommend them.

Full Count 0105SFS I bought for a good price from eBay last year. They are an
export version of the 13.7oz 0105 model that Full Count released for
Europe about 10-12 years ago I believe. In addition to the cinchback,
other departures from the standard model are the inverted arcs, lack of a
red tab, Scovill rivets, red selvage and some tacky kanji on the upper
left thigh, which I scraped off with the tip of a blade from a Swiss
army knife whilst still raw, you can see still the outline. They've
subsequently had 2 washes at 40C to get all the shrinkage out and with
some wear and further washes, I think it'll disappear. The denim has so
much character and is similar to my Vintage label Momotaros - perhaps
it's the Zimbabwean cotton(!) I'm certainly looking forward to wearing
these. Flash had a pair a few years back but sold them.

Someone complained that the post was publicising a blog. Seriously, I don't think the complainant or the mod knew that Nihon Menpu made fabrics for MF. But yes, common sense prevailed thanks to some doughty posters.

spring cleaning my wardrobe I dug out these Evis pieces from the 90s. Thought they might be of interest here. The jacket I just about lived in, at the time, the cowboy jeans still get a bit of occasional wear and the Big Paint (Lot 2513) are a too small these days...
traces of the big paint stripe...

There's a Q&A with Miki about the Full Count 1108 http://loomstate.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/magic-number-mikiharu-tsujita-and-full.html" rel="nofollow - on me blog .

Great stuff Paul - I enjoyed your informative article on loomstate and your 1108s are looking mighty fine. I was in SoaS ages ago (last year) and Rudy showed me some beautifully worn FCs (0105s I think) that Miki San had given them to display, slightly better than yours (just)!

Looking to snag some sda's. What's the stretch like on the 101s after a soak? Do they stretch back out to presoak?
------------- Too bad your momma's a bitch, cuz I totally coulda been your daddy.

The waist will get back there... eventually. It won't be easy though, the 15oz SDA denim is tightly woven and not known for its stretchability.

i reckon you're the same size as me. get a 33 if you wanna fiddle with washing, 34 if you just wanna stick em into the washing machine/dryer.

Really happy to finally had a personal collection from each of the Osaka 5. Currently on wear is only the Evisu as I am still rotating it with Century Denim until that fades out. Plan is to slowly rotate through each one in the next couple of years, will be a great test of willpower to not buy/wear anything else in the future.

I checked out SDA's Harajuku store the other day. Both the shop and the staff were very pleasant.
I wasn't really planning on buying anything but this 'Drizzler's Jacket' fit so well, I ended up getting it, plus a short-sleeved shirt. I have no idea what a drizzler's jacket might be but I think it's a great little piece.
They have a huge range of graphic tees, loop wheel and otherwise, that looked great too. Will definitely return after summer for a look at their fall range.
