Folks,  Allow this to be the beasting thread on all things Rising Sun related.  Being the resident Rising Sun fanboy, I decided it best that I start this thread.

I absolutely love the aesthetic of pretty much all Rising Sun Garments.  They all have a handmade personal vibe to them and that is because they are all handmade in their little haberdashery by the few folks they got working there.  The prices are kinda steep and they are sometimes hard to get a hold of, but maybe that is part of the allure.  It's like battered woman syndrome.  they just keep coming back.

Some pics of their great stuff.

The Rising Sun Ranch Hand jacket:

The Engineer Jacket I was never able to get.  I snapped a pic of this washed version when i was at the shop.

Some beautiful Black Smiths.

Share what y'all got.

Bandit, I know you got some.

Very pissed.  I had a very nicely worded dig on bandit and the reason why his ab elfelts look better than mine is because he wasn't worried about wearing his RxCs or something of the sort  Wink... lame!  Somehow it was lost in the interwebz.

Anyways here are the AB Elfelt.

The inside pocket tag.  Beautifully done.  It is the small details that get my crotch all warm and wet..

I believe Hodis does all of the branding/marketing designs.  All of it looks beautifully done.

I put my name on the wait list for that jacket and matching vest in my size. Sleeves on the medium were just a hair too short. Hopefully the next run of sizes will get going soon.

I did pick up the duck Ranch Hand which I'd been after for awhile on Friday when I visited the shop, talked with Mike for a bit and everyone was super nice and helpful. I hope I can add a few more items as my budget allows.

Also, they really did have one of the best booths at Inspiration.

Just so we all know:  Hombre is coming out with some nutty shit recently.  There are pants he has planned that will make your head spin with a matching jacket.  Uggg.  It all looks great.  I think the RS booth is the only booth that I felt killed it, other than LVC, but hey they have tons of cash.  Presentation-wise rising sun's branding is bar none.

The vest is detailed and backed with the striped duck. The front is the mostly the darker brown plain duck with the striped stuff on the pocket tops.

How much do the Standard Jean shrink when soaked? Down to tagged or down from tagged? Even though the Ranch Hand goes nicely with my Lee's, I might have to get some of those to have a full R.S. fit.

A little teaser pic for now:

There was a lot of talk about the duck jacket that Mike was wearing at inspiration.  Here is that jacket.  I believe there is somewhat a matching pant that will be coming out as well.

I believe this jacket is about a year old.  i saw it last year at inspiration as well as the pants that go along with it.  There are a lot of construction details on this which make it pretty special.  The shaped waist band, which is a four part waist band is one of them.

The new acquisition.  I would like to say that Mike was very cool to work with on this.  Hombre scheduled a time for me to come down and talk fabrics with him.  When it came time to pick it up he opened up the shop on an off day to work with my schedule.  Overall, very pleased with the process and the final product, which is all I really care about, though.

Hodis just got these sew on black enamel buttons when I was down there.  They were just what I wanted.

One of my favorite construction aspects of these jeans is the buckle back.  I like how it curves down from the waistband.  Also, the black smith is a yokeless pant.

I chose a beefy leather patch, although, I do like the standard printed linen patch that is on the regular blacksmiths.

Typically the blacksmiths have a duck waistband lining.  Mike had just acquired this wabash duck fabric.  I had him put this new care label and the wabash duck in the waistband.  We also chose the expose the selvage along the waistband.  It is that little read line running along the bottom of the waistband.

I was a little hesitant on what size to go with, but i think I hit it right on (or spot on as we all like to say).  I might have been able to go up a size for a bit baggier fit, but I assume this denim will stretch as most loomstate denims will.

I forgot to take a pic of the one-piece fly.  That is probably the coolest thing about these pants.  there aren't too many companies making jeans with the one-piece fly these days.  It seems to me to be a stronger fly construction than the standard.

Nice. What weight is the denim? Looks a little heavier/slubbier than what Rising Sun typically uses. Also will this 'rnr' pattern now become a standard one?

Posted By: rnrswitch
Date Posted: 20 Feb 2012 at 8:03pm
The weight is about 14 to 15oz.  The denim is pretty slubby.  There isn't much different from the standard blacksmith other than the denim.  I think anybody could get this jean if they were willing to toss down the $$$.  In my mind, if you are gonna spring for $500 for a pair of jeans, you should just throw $600 at it and get exactly what you want and that is what I got.

Beautiful!  The black enameled buttons are fantastic.  I agree, if I would have known that 100 extra bucks would have gotten me a custom pair I would have sprung for it.  They are my favorite jeans.  My stock blacksmith have started to breakdown now after about 14 months and are buttery soft.

Thanks for the pics of the new stuff.  Lots of beautiful new pieces, may have to call RS.

Beautifull loomstate denim on those blacksmiths switch, and those details - awesome!
Especially like the duck wabash inner waistband material.
Nice to see that the cinch straps kinda replace the yoke in terms of shaping the back.

Although it's a little outta my league, the more Rising Sun stuff I see, the more I like.

simply amazing.   a genuine work of art in all ways.  When you get a chance to shoot a pic of the one piece fly....

I also love those black enameled buttons... It's the little things like that that really make Rising Sun top shelf....

nice! is that a seersucker farmer shirt?  love that shirt.  just curious if its printed with RS on the inside.  the wabash one from the fall had RS printed on the inside and was curious if he's having fabric produced for RS.

I have a hard time resisting Rising Sun, find myself saving most of my clothing funds for them.

Those blacksmith are the first time I've had a pair of sanforized denim and it was interesting to see how they wear in.  They stayed dark and virtually the same until last month when the fabric started to break down rapidly.  the thighs feel like a thin tshirt now.

love to see the wear on the abs/neu, the most mine see are some hard gardening.  those are my two favorite pieces so I'm a little careful with them.

I was talking to Howard at http://www.abfits.com/" rel="nofollow - A-B Fits in San Francisco yesterday- he tells me he still has a good line of communications with Rising Sun and can generally order stuff from them, so anyone having difficulties getting a response directly from Rising Sun might try going through A-B Fits. Cash isn't always king, I spent a day painting the RS red and made out pretty good on a labor for clothing tradeLOL With the help of a few of Mike's employees, we were able to paint all of the walls and a few doors. Mike's having a friend wood grain the roll up door and do some other finishing touches.... It's always fun looking through all of the cool stuff ... that this mad man has collected over the years.

I hate to be a negative Ned, but I hate how Rising Sun does business.  They barely made any of the shirts, they can't answer you when asked if they will be restocked, they can't answer emails and I feel like they didn't really care about my business when I called them.  If they aren't going to product enough of the shirts for retail sales, take the shirts out of photo's when promoting the line.  It's irritating to want something so bad and not being able to obtain one, and getting no help from the company.

But that's why I stick to MF like glue, they are so helpful it's like they are hell bent on making everyone happy.

With that being said, I do like a lot of RS products and realize a lot of the people on this board are good friends with them.  So in no way am I trying to stir the pot.

Did you try and contact Howard at AB Fits like Mr. Randal suggested?  He's a great guy and he might be able to get you the pieces you want.

Rising Sun and Mister Freedom are two different beast, both wonderful for different reasons.  Have you had a chance to visit them?  They are two very different shops.  Rising Sun makes their gear in the back of the shop.  Hope that helps a bit.

Latest Rising Sun for me.  This was a no-brainer for me, I collect FFA jackets so this was right up my alley.
It has a great shape.  The fabric is really dense, it dried in like 10 min. after I rinsed it.

Thanks, the jacket is really great if I need something to cut the wind.  It almost feels like a tarp material its so dense.

I probably have around 55-60 FFA.  I collect them casually, mostly was trying to get the 50 states.  Hawaii took me the longest to get.  There are some really great names on a couple of them, it would be hard to choose a fav.  Bob Dale pointed me to one that had a hand embroidered patch!  It was thousands which is more then I would ever spend but it was pretty cool.

Posted By: Happy Hooligan
Date Posted: 17 Apr 2012 at 8:28am
I went to Fredericktown OH High School where the FFA teacher (Dr. Gus Lintner) invented the jacket and then was later adopted as the official jacket 1933.

I always liked them.   One from each state sounds like a cool collection.

back to RS   if that jacket has the same material as the Ranch Hand, then I know what you mean.  I couldn't even unbutton the pockets when I got it the duck was so dense.  Now it's actually pretty soft but it took a few months of wear and tear...

It's a different material then the Ranch jacket, it feels like an even tighter weave if you can believe that.  It's like a tarp material almost that I would put under my tent.  It dries in like 10 min.

RS updated website with the new caps that Mike was speaking of in an earlier post, very nice. color combos.

it looks fantastic out in nature like that.  It's my favorite jacket for sure.  I don't think I've even worn one of my denim jackets since I got mine...

Looking good! That guy on the home page better be careful though, I don't think aviator sunglasses or Murray's petroleum-based pomade are OSHA approved for welding.

What the hell is instagram?  I'm still trying to get a handle on 1990s tech, and everybody keeps switching formats, feeds, forums every three days.  I feel like Alice at the tea party sometimes.  I don't think I want to see any new Rising Sun anyhow.  Too bigga buckaroos fo this cowpoke. (but dang if it sure ain't purty stuff...)
