Subject: Thrift Braggin Thread

I may not have looked well enough, but I am not sure that the thrift bragging thread survived recent tidying.

The portions of my wardrobe that aren't gifts, were thrifted.

I could post paragraphs defining what thrifting is and is not  but  don't want to come across like a turd.  However, thrifting is not done on ebay or etsy, that much should be obvious.  I don't really consider flea markets thrifting either, as someone curated their stall and essentially did the thrifting for you. Garage sales, dumpster diving, and thrift stores are allowed as they require hustle , knowledge, and luck.

Once i figure out Imgur i will post some pictures.

My best recent find(s) were two pairs of youth jeans.

Right Hand Twill Wrangler Blue Bell 13MWZ from the mid 60s (my brain is foggy on when they switched to broken twill) which i sold to a dealer/collector out west.

And a pair of Levis 505-0217 from around 70-71 probably.
Big E
'5' stamped on the top button
no 'v' stitch on fly
bartacked back pockets
single stitch
Surged Outseam and not selvage.
deeeeep indigo
bells
whistles
may keep for my son, but he's not really into jeans that aren't actually sweatpants these days so

what about you?

Nice, Bob. I used to make a regular weekly circuit back in New Orleans. I'm too far from any thrift stores now for that to be practical.

I found a pair of trickers brogue boots at a charity shop the other week. £20, barely worn.

Being the mercenary type, after a quick polish they sold for £170 on eBay within an hour of listing. A very rare lucky scoop.

My girlfriend and I usually check out a few local places but I've never found anything worthwhile unfortunately.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's findings.

It would seem like 6 months ago- a guy came here on the site, he found a one wash leather patch Levi from the early 50ā€™s- I havenā€™t been that lucky- yet

This guy found it at the goodwill near Levi HQ in SF

I had a good thrifting day recently, found an old U.S. Navy blanket in pretty fair condition (only a couple moth holes) and a couple trunk down bandanas. Here's the blanket:

That is a lovely blanket likeacannon!

I have been trying to find a marine corps one for a while now.

^ lets see if Imgur works...

I found two of these Sears Pocket tees.  they're a bit snug, but I really love them.  They are a good 4-5x heavier than the counterparts I am able to pick up locally (target, et al)

I picked up what looks like a 60ā€™s-70ā€™s sears Sherpa today, probably paid a little too much, but it has a good look to it.

A few pics of the oldest thing he's found so far.

And a picture from the college this shirt is from.

We went out on a 2 day dig, and thrifted along Hwy !4- on the way up.
I hoped our luck would continue- and maybe we could find a 1890 XX.
The thrifting turned out to be the best part of the trip- Finding 1800's
stuff was a toe smashing failure- a 7 foot wall of rock, and nowhere
to put it.

Top 2 are #6 button double stitch (late 70's)
The next 3 are mid 80's
The next 3 are early 1990's
The rest are mid 90's

I was about to walk out of the store, then, let me check womenā€™s jackets- I do this all the time now.
I couldnā€™t believe my eyes- in person the denim has that 60ā€™s and older type of denim look, just a different
Shade of dark blue- hope your going to be checking on that 28 mile road side garage sales in your town this summer?

I pinched myself, made sure it was tagged and then tried to play it cool. I definitely was drumming my steering wheel and doing a dance, in the safety of my car

Hertz Rental cars, the company is hurting pretty bad, so we thought we would spend a few days
thrifting in this...It's not about speed, it's about reaching that speed limit, in a short amount of time.

Looks like rayon gabardine to me. A lot of vintage (30s/40s/50s) western wear was made of that fabric. High quality!

Killer score! Miller's are the first snap western shirts. Being from Denver we find them out in the wild pickin' from time to time. Yours is probably 50s / 60s based on the design / collar size. I think the founder of Rockmount Western Shirts (Jacke Weil) worked at Miller in the 40s / 50s. Great American history. Congrats!

Picked this up the other day. Apparently, they are under the name of Sailfish SeaVees by PF Flyers. Not very familiar with this, other than the namesake of the manufacturer.
In terms of its all around conditions, itā€™s in pretty good shape. No sign of any usage. Though I canā€™t tell about the date of its production. All I know, thanks to Google, is that Sailfish dates back from the early 60s ?
