Correct me if I’m wrong- years ago, weaponsgate was our first clash?
In 2017 contestjeangate was when I was under fire 🔥👈🏽
We’re in the midst of deletegate

There were others
That I don’t know about or haven’t seen

Does anyone know what thread weaponsgate was under?

I think I missed weaponsgate. Can you give me a brief synopsis please?

I think it might have been 2012 or 13
After one of many mass shootings
A member suggested that Obama grow a set of balls and ban all guns
We had some avid hunters back in those days- well you probably know what kind of hot button that is in the US

I see that the contest Jean thread is gone- maybe we can restore that one?
I never really knew when it went south- contestjeangate that is.
At the time- when I said ( I got a pair and the rest of you can eat monkey balls)
I never really thought- that was all that incentive.

Then a year later someone told me they installed a 00 app on my comments 😜

Ah, I see. Must have either missed or forgotten that particular kerfuffle.

Contestjeansgate on the other hand, I remember well. That was the tipping point when things started going south...

I remember it like it was yesterday

Dude was calling for the chair

And another member had a book sale a week later- he had to lighten his load when he was selling both our books ( I could tell- he wasn’t upset at all- with my mismanagement)

In all seriousness- I should really know my limitations

That reminds me (actually CSL reminded me)-

I don't believe the full story of contestgate ever came out, as related to me.

I was never directly involved with the contest jeans being made by Leroy. I knew the players of course and had suggested the possibility to Leroy based on the thread interest in him as a maker- but he told me that he wouldn't be able to make any jeans at all along the lines that we were discussing in the contest thread. Not only that but that he wouldn't be able to make one for Denimbruin, which was coming up at that time. He also swore the few people who knew he actually was making some to secrecy, and especially forbade them to tell me.
Someone did eventually take pity on me and spill the beans, as I was struggling to plan that portion of Denimbruin as I didn't know what would be presented and couldn't properly plan space or announcements.
I'd said publicly a few times that I was out of the planning for that contest, but somehow after the jeans and the number of them made were revealed I recall taking most of the blame from quite a few people  for their not getting a pair, including a lot of public complaining and several nasty personal dms.
I also somehow ended up trying to smooth the whole thing over and eventually donated the pair of jeans I was given (a complete surprise to me) to a tour thread to try and ease tensions.
Its my pair that are still floating around out there on that extended tour. I was okay, if a bit sad, about giving them up to make people feel better about the situation. Surprisingly though I still caught a lot of flack from some about the whole situation.
The secrecy and some unpleasantness in the follow up soured my relationship with the maker and the blame i took here was the last straw for me in really active denimbro forum involvement.

If you want to burn the house down- get me involved in a management position.

Yeah I definitely was one of the people upset by this at the time. I won't deny that. However, I do know that a lot of other people expressed their anger with my privately through IG. I was just one that actually expressed my unhappiness directly on the forum. I am really sorry if anything that I said pushed you away, Mr. R and I am going to assume it probably did.

I certainly have no ill will over it now and I did not know that it was your pair of jeans that we used for the contest (which I was a part of.) Thank you for doing that as it was fun to participate in that and did ease my feelings about that whole situation. It probably won't, but I hope Denimbruin makes a comeback someday. It was a great experience even if it was the beginning of a downturn for this forum.

It’s all part of the drama and excitement- you forget- forums can clock you on the head out of nowhere
Dust yourself off and get going
It would seem that the dust has settled

Wait a minute!

Factoring these revelations into my calculations, i'm only now responsible for instigating 98.25% of the conflict.

And it looks like I'm pinned for the other 1.75%!

do the two of us really add up to 100% of the issues here?

Nevermind, don't answer that...LOL

hey B!

What are their measurements these days? I suspect they’ll be too small, but let’s see.

In the spirit of reform, maybe a new tour is in order?

Interesting read, I knew a little (headline status) about this, ie that some folk were upset for not getting a pair but really - boo f@*#ing hoo - why was anyone entitled to them! Sounds like mr r handled this with dignity but anyone who gave him a hard time (unless they have a valid reason - although is there actually one?) should be ashamed of themselves.

In defense of the injured folks involved- I’m not sure these were grown men😬💪🏽

Extender wonder buttons!

Do NOT throw away that favourite expensive garment just because it is a bit too tight!

- Perfect for Trousers, Skirts, Jeans, Coats, Shirt Collars etc.

- Pregnancy, temporary weight gain or clothes shrunk in wash?

- Use these ingenious little extenders instead to make every collar/waist approximately half a size larger.

- Nylon stretch-stop inside the spring prevents over stretching.

- GUARANTEED to be effective.

And if that’s the case- you might need to adjust your calculations

I think I remember checkjacketgate too, would the details be in an LVC discussion or was it Heller’s/Warehouse?

Anyway, when this thread eventually blows up too (it will), we’ll be discussing Watergategate.

You were in town- you politely reminded me of my mismanagement back then - throw out the never make the same mistake twice- safe to say that I’ve stepped down from the managerial position for good

Look at how I managed the extended Leroy tour jeans- I was in talks with sending them out to the asteroid belt on the Tesla- The timing was all wrong- I think the jeans were on the Congo leg of the tour- around the same time

can we go way way back to expurgate-gate

i remember the groundswell of content on the superfuture Roy thread by 'Roy-boys' being cleansed from the thread when Roy were first offered at Self-Edge. There was a lot of playful banter about the URCC I think it was called... this was 8-9 years ago when I washed dishes for a living in Central Nebraska, so my memory  of everything at the time is a bit foggy.

It may have been more of a small ripple than full on wave... but i remember at the time feeling rather incensed that content would be moved/deleted.

This would have been like 2010/2011 maybe.

anyone else remember that?

^ I missed that one, and always wondered when reading through the earlier parts of the thread what that was all about. Anyone at liberty to give any explanation, now that it’s so far in the past?

That Roy thread was very active and rambunctious, frequently OT and had a lot of members who had disdain for Sufu’s retailer over-friendly (some might say) policies.
I always suspected that some business interest or another that had eyes on Roy pulled strings with some mods to try and change the culture of that thread to something more exploitable.

Where's RNRswitch ... i recall him being instrumental in that thread, in it's earliest incarnation.

It's a shame people got all hot and bothered over not getting some fancy pants.
Sure, I was a little disappointed but not enough to go out of my way to complain about about it to anyone.

I wasn't around during the early Roy days, I started out on StyleForum and graduated to sufu a couple years later. I'd be interested to hear about it all.

I'm actually going to see Roy in a few weeks.

Man ... Styleforum... wow,  yea... that place was intense and very proto social media.  I started posting there in college so  It would have been 2005-6 . I am pretty sure i was friends with people from there on myspace if that helps place set the stage even more.

I  had well over 10,000 posts there.  Ermm

But , it ultimately led me towards LVC 47s , I heard about Roy and bought OG Roys instead  so while It was definitely not a great resource for info on heritage /workwear  I   managed to make a ton of good friends there and ultimately ended up here as a result.

I have recently been going through that thread from the beginning again and have always wondered about expurgate-gate as well. Interesting to hear it may have been retailer motivated-seems like all the grumbling about the change from ordering direct is still mostly intact.
