A thread to keep up with Mr Slaper's experiment.

Saw this on his site earlier this morning, not sure if he'll extend this to folks with OG's too or not (maybe?).

your patch here

On the latest run of jeans (RS3 and RN3), I didn’t do any “faux aging” on the patch. They are just treated with neatsfoot oil (explore that term if you are so inclined) and smoothed out. Since I am curious how they will look after a while I came up with a way to entice people to send me pictures of their aged patches. Its pretty informal. Send me a photo. If I like it, I’ll put it right here on the screen and you will receive the warm feeling of accomplishment and a pair of jeans. Photography counts here; Its a combo thing. There is no time limit. Essentially, they take a while to look cool and it can’t be rushed. I imagine there will be a bell curve of admissions and as they taper off, I’ll pass judgement.

thinking, interested to see more details(... and the price tag.)

Though there is the slim possibility I could miraculously win the contest and get the unique one he's worked up.

Hopefully I'll have some new pics of Roy and the studio by this weekend. Any requests for subject matter? Specifically things. Don't say "denim" smartass rnr.

Machines!  I've been dying for Roy to update his 'Machine Spotlight'.

Also, maybe some kind of 'panoramic' type shot just giving us a better sense of his studio (if this si something Roy is cool with).

Maybe some outside shots of the studio.  I take it the studio is in an industrial part of Oakland.  Try to steal some shots of the denim jacket he will be releasing, but we know how secretive he is on that stuff.

This is the new denim that Cone developed specifically for Roy. The darkest blue they are capable of producing, over 15oz loomstate. Plain white selvedge. Check out the fat fill yarn.

awesome photos.  I really love the whole "Roy" thing.  I love that his truck has real rust on it and not faux rust. He's the real deal.

Plus, I'd love a to own a  few of his machines too...

I spot a woman on a sewing machine. Now the whole "one man workshop magic" is gone!

The denim looks really great! Will this be his standard denim now or just for the RS03 and RN03?

Yeah, come on Mark, what's the crack on that new heavy dark denim?

Nice to see the world tour pants made it home. Great update Mark.

Posted By: mr randal

Thanks guys!

The lady is Roy's girlfriend, not staff, so the magic remains.

The denim is going to be Roy's signature denim for here on out. Looks similar to the RxC denim, maybe slightly heavier.

The tour pants are getting hemmed before they go back to Roy's favorite poster from the tour.

check out who's the proud new owner of a pair jeans!  for a guy who initially was reluctant to do the tour and tried to mess up the jeans in every way possible, i'm incredibly stoked to have these back!  huge thanks to mr. roy slaper and our own roy6 for making this happen (and of course Medine for organizing the tour)

not sure what i'm gonna do with the jeans next.  roy took a few inches off the legs and they fit perfectly.  think i'm just gonna enjoy them for awhile.

***for those who don't know.  these were a one off jean made by ROY for a 1 year tour.  he used some crazy rainbow selvedge nihon menpu something or another denim and a special cut. the jeans were sent to Illinois, Texas, Minnesota, Kansas, Germany, Italy, California, Virginia etc.,

New Roy denim produced by Cone. Similar to the RxC jeans denim, but a lot heavier and with an incredibly smooth, tight, strong hand.

Roys straight leg, new batch.

not sure if a "N" version will be released alongside but looks to me like the regular "RS" version. if im not wrong the RS04 is a new fabric run from CONE to Roy Slaper's specifications, with a couple of minor tweaks to the "RS" cut.

I will start with the beginning of the day on sunday....when Mark, Kevin, Mike and i woke up early and traveled across the Bay Bridge to Oakland. we met up at a buddist temple and followed Roy and Molly to petes coffee...everyone gathered around the street corner in the freezing wind and chatted(it was sooooo cold) Mike and Roy talked about skateboarding in their earlier years......... when the buddist temple opened we went back and had the most amazing thai breakfast. we all sat at the long picnic benches provided and shivered in the scattered sunlight as we devoured the hot curries and soups. Roy and Mike discovered they had a bottle hunting friend in common in oakland and Roy talked about how this guy digs up outhouses in various towns in the bay area..................

we parked in his studio parking lot, the area was an industrial area with old brick buildings

This was the first time we had been to his studio so I was very curious to see what it was like......he opened the first outerdoor and that opened up into a large woodworking shop, we walked through that and then came to a sliding white door........

the workshop up next...............

Posted By: Nonriveted
Date Posted: 21 Mar 2012 at 10:19am
When I entered the space, I was taken by the amount of light, even on a rainy day that poured through the large opaque industrial windows...to my left in a cabinet was stacks of pants he had just completed and were ready to ship out.........

I asked about how long it takes him to make these and if I remember correctly he said it varies but on average 8 pairs a day as long as all the elements of the pants are pulled together ahead of time and he isn't interrupted a lot by phone calls and such.......

Mark and Roy talked about the new run of jeans.............and Roy showed us how the pockets were all lined......they were beautiful.

more up next.........

Date Posted: 21 Mar 2012 at 10:48am
Good stuff Charla.  Looking forward to hearing a little more about the denim on those new roys.

Posted By: Nonriveted
Date Posted: 21 Mar 2012 at 10:58am
Everyone settled in and started looking at michaels box of denim...........

Michael's wearing his Roy competition jeans and a jacket that was a gift from Mark

Kevin and michael above

I took the oppurtunity to walk around and absorb some of the details of the space........the more I looked the more I realized that I was observing an authentic workshop, just like my brothers copperworks shop and my grandpa's sheet metal shop, all had similar qualities.......similar smells and feels. all over the floor was the cotton remnants of the cutting and trimming needed to create a pair of pants just like the metal shards in grandpas workshop........these are the kind of spaces America had more of prior to shipping all the labor overseas..........

Molly was great to talk to, we realized she grew up not far from my house in Orange County....she works at Levi's right now....we had fun joking about the housewifes of orange county.....

as we left Roy made us our own personalized handkerchiefs, and we got to see and hear some of the machines in actions.......

great people, great space, great jeans............
I think we are seeing the old saying "do one thing and do it well" in action here in Oakland.....

Took a couple pics of my Roys this morning.. I have a lot of jeans, so I rotate quite a bit. These have approx 4-5 months of actual wear. A couple soaks and washes as well..

Posted By: Dr_Heech
Date Posted: 28 Jul 2012 at 10:41am
My Roy OG's after twelve months pretty much daily wear, mostly at work.  Bought them from a sufu member in one-soak condition, they are from that last big run before Mr. Slapper started his narrow and slim variations.  Really like the '40's cut on these.

Will try and get a fit-pic at some point.

And my RoyxCone contest jeans. Worn for six months solid, had a few soaks and washes, now worn only occasionally.  Probably the nicest fading denim I've ever experienced.
