Hi guys, I’m a new member. My names terry and I’m from London uk. Thought I would ask you guys a bit of a funny question. I love engineer boots, but most of the time I find my calves are too skinny to fill out the top of boots. I don’t want to tuck my pants into boots, so I’ve taken to maybe wearing one or two pairs of thick socks....and a few pairs of leg warmers to fill out the gap. It does bug me, and sometimes I can’t be bothered with it all! I find I’m leaning more towards logger boots etc, as their way more fitted at top .
Any thoughts on subject? Humorous or otherwise. Thanks, terry

.

Two words: custom made.  One more word: Wesco.  (Proper custom boots take into account your calf width in the shaft size.)

Those words said, as a streamlined gal who loves solid-built engineers and can't get/afford custom every time, I have also suffered the secret shame of shredded shins.

For my boots that still bite back, I wear proper (read wool-nylon blend) hiking/boot socks (one pair should be sufficient) and, if extra coverage at the top is necessary, runners' leg compression sleeves.

Works a charm and probably prevents shin splints when I have a sudden urge to chase down and tackle a fleeing criminal with saggy trousers.  Smile

PS Hello and welcome to the forum, Terry.

PPS I have a feeling one of the moderators might move our posts to the engineer boots thread.  That is, unless we care to discuss other aspects of the skinny leg issue, such as odd fade patterns or fear of resembling Mick Jagger while wearing N&F Skinny Guy fit black denims...

HP sauce hit the nail on the head. I too have a thinner silhouette, and a WESCO custom fit was worth every penny (in my opinion).

Hi Terry, fellow Londoner here, and fellow skinny leg/calf sufferer (the struggle is real).

What engineer boots do you have? I've not worn some for many years. My old pair is by Georgia Boot co and while they were a bit flappy around the calf, I don't recall it being problematic. Is the issue in your head rather than with the calf/boot combo? Have you thought about taking the boots to a quality cobbler to see if he/she can thin out or taper the shaft of the the boots a little?

And don't get me started on narrow feet (in a 1/2 size), flat buttocks and a small head. It's a curse I tells you.

Hi mr black, thanks for your message. No it’s not in my head. I have got skinny legs. Funny thing is, I’m really broad and big up top, so I don’t match really. I,ve got about 5 pairs of engineer boots, and some are smaller round the opening than others. Best pair are redwing 2268 boots, they hardly flap round top. Most engineer boots though are suited to people with bigger calves than me. Even a lot of girls have got bigger calves than me.....I check them out when out walking....think I’m developing calve envy!
Anyway thanks for the message. Terry

Hi rob Roy, thanks for the message. Yeah I’m sure your right about the wesco, trouble is their out my price range! Although I do keep my eyes out for used ones on eBay, although they have probably been made for a bigger calved person!! Another problem is the shipping charges, although I have bought 4 or 5 pairs of boots from eBay USA before.
Anyway , nice to hear from you! Terry

Hi hp sauce, thanks for the message! Wesco would be the way to go....just can’t afford them! I have about 5 pairs of engineer boots, and I find redwing 2268 the best fit at the opening, just one pair of thick socks, and I’m good to go. I will try the runners compression sleeves. Do you wear the compression sleeves over your socks or under them? Anyway, I must find something new to obsess over! Thanks, terry

You can always stick a couple of these down your socks.
