I don't know what's wrong with the idea of of working with the same patterns over time- after all, that is how it was done for some thousands of years before the idea of fast fashion and seasons came along. That isn't how MF does it, of course, which is part of their charm. I'm not sure how germane this sub-discussion is, if (if I read things correctly) it is based on an inference that my compliment to the roll out of MF's fist couple of seasons was actually a complaint that the brand is not static enough? Only in the Mister Freedom thread would a compliment be read as a complaint because it wasn't complimentary enough. ![]() |

mr randal - I agree - any of the favoured brands here have built their reputation and demonstrated their qualities by developing original ideas.
There is a freshness about early seasons because invariably they might have been quite different from others in the same market, but any perceived loss of freshness (if indeed that's what has occurred) is normally replaced by a maturity and more subtle developments. I'm not sure where you read any complaint though - I see here more a support of the MF process.

I love that MF burns the old patterns and starts anew each year. It certainly results in more misses than hits, as there can be no post-release improvements on a design, but it also lends itself to something more than a vest of last year's shirting or shorts that are just, well, shorter pants.
FW perfects designs but offers few new ideas. FW is reliable. MF offers many new ideas but perfects few designs. MF is exciting. I'm a big fan of both. |

DM- that's because you lack my sensitive skin and suspicious eye.
Rejoice. Although, having revisited the early SF MF thread, I do see a tendency here and elsewhere to be overly-protective of the brand. MF is mature enough that I don't think that that is necessary. |
