It's from the MF blog ( about the collection)

This “Saigon Cowboy” capsule collection is not about fashion. The support are the clothes, they will come with a ‘manual’. The historical backdrop of the Vietnam war is used as the eye opening premise of an intellectual reflection about the absurdity of war. It is not controversial for the sake of it. It is not shocking for the show. It is not an attempt at offending veterans, communities, or any nationals of Countries involved or affected by that conflict. It is not meant to revive bygone or dormant animosities.

It is out of the comfort zone for sure. Mine and many others’.
But if it plants just one seed out there that helps prevent more of the same in the future, then my risk was worth taking.

Peace.

Christophe Loiron,

I'm not sure how a badge featuring a racial caricature will help prevent further conflicts. More likely to incite them in my opinion.

I'm glad his collection isn't about fashion though, I prefer clothing brands who sell poetry and intellectual ideas.

I like MF and am sure he has sound morals and values but that comment Spork posted above was a bit too much for me.

I kind of agree with you on the fashion statement. I mean, I think its fair to link "fashion" to art found in clothing. And since there is defiantly an artistic & historical statement in this line of clothing, I can't see how it can't be about fashion. I mean we aren't selling hard hats and overalls here. The clothes are meant to look nice (i hope).

Again, I have no issue with taking the risk on the patch here, and im glad its being replaced or toned down, but fashion is most certainly a factor here.

Since we're already at the half way point, I think I'll just wait for John Galliano to release a collection with some sugar cane fiber denim

Look on the bright side, If it fails to sell the BBC costumes department can buy it up for the potentially ill fated Top Gear special to Vietnam.
