Robroy, they are LVCJ and may be Cone- I think they sourced cone denim for some of their repros from 2000-2009.

Repaired the Evisu couple of weeks ago...
![]() ![]() ![]() Did try my hand on some hand-darning, bit difficult stitch job but lots of fun to do.

Hey friends! I'm also trying to get some repairing done during this lockdown... and, I'm getting a 404 when trying to hit up the linked "repairs" thread. Basically, I'm looking for a single info source for thread weights, colors, and sources. Like, what thread weights did vintage Levi's use? And, what colors? A bunch of the vintage I have uses a thick thread for the top-stitching and bar-tacking that fades to a purple color. You think it started out black? What is that? I'd also love to see a discussion of the various yellows/oranges used. Is there some totally obvious online repository for this info that I just haven't found yet via google?
I have a bunch of sashiko thread and have picked up random vintage threads here and there, but I know I'm just scratching the surface. Here's a recent acquisition -I needed thread to repair this old Hercules jacket. I found this vintage thread on Etsy ("light navy"?) that is almost a perfect match for the top-stitching... it's just a little too thin (fine if it's doubled up when hand stitching). ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, I'd be curious to know if folks think it best to try as use authentic, vintage (100% cotton?) thread for repairs, or if there's stronger poly thread that makes more sense and won't look significantly different. Thanks for any direction!

I've been meaning to possibly patch this up for the past few years, I can only think of one place to wear this- A Hodis shindig, I wore a 1870's Bee hive hat to a Rising Sun party a few years ago- I wore it Beverly Hillbilly style, I knew i hit a home run when Hodis called me Jethro...... Moving on Should i do some outside patching? What fabric? Duck-Denim? I have a whole list of other fabrics......So what would look best? Edited by Sansome - 12 Apr 2020 at 11:36pm |

Sansome I think some duck canvas would look great, maybe with some dark brown thread? I tend to stick with the same basic color scheme of the garment I'm working on (with exceptions for very light-colored fabric), while using lighter or darker versions of that color or ones in the same family (tans and browns, indigos and blues, blacks and greys, etc...).

Good advice- I think I’ll go with that. |

I think I'd look for a matching or very close color felt & put it on with a fairly coarse stitch in a contrasting color.

Not a bad idea, and I have plenty of hat pieces- but I think I’ll go for something a little more over the top. If I’m going to wear this at a possible Hodis hat party- it needs to stand out......maybe I’ll put some stifel fabric On a few spots? I’ll start with some duck patches first..... then go from there.
