Listen, if you want to be super-careful about future fraying, then run a TINY amount of fray check along the buttonhole stitching.  Fray check hardens up the fabric and prevents the threads coming loose over time.  Warning:  Too much can make things too unwieldy and could even darken the surrounding fabric.

Alternatively, you can do as Mr. Q suggests and just keep an eye on the situation.  Given how hefty the fabric is, it is likely to stand up reasonably well over time, particularly if you aren't chucking it in the wash every single week.

As a reasonably accomplished sewer, I still hold my breath sewing and then cutting open buttonholes.  They are generally the last step in a sewing project and one false move -- especially with the cutting knife -- can cause you to completely destroy a project.

That said, I would never let an error like that get past my QC.

I reinforced the Gloom Chaser last night, they look OK Smile. My wife loves it when I sew!

Anyway, I'm thinking since I bought both shirts from a shop, the flaws may have to do with extra stress from people trying it on in the shop. That said, I've never had this happen with any of the shirts I own before. Perhaps this information will be helpful to Michael.

I will definitely have to check out fray check! Thanks for the suggestion.

Guess I got hitched to an early version of male, one that should not be entrusted with any sharp instrument smaller than a steak knife.

(Mind you, I have some serious needle puncture wounds of my own that I'd better hide before making that kind of comment. Embarrassed)

Michael does seem to enjoy sewing his button holes extra tight. I had a button hole go with my head janitor shirt a few months back and I just brought it over to him to fix.

His work is incredible, but the buttonholes are indeed tiny :P

Can't wait for the La Rivertoise releases!

In the meantime, I picked up this piece! Human & Chain, early release, 2nd run of shirts by Michael limited to 23 shirts or so. Contacted Michael and he told me "It is made from Cone Desert Sky chambray with Button Wood Corp Tagua nut buttons and A&E Tex 40 and 60 Indigo D Core thread."

Still has chalks marks from production. Pretty cool.

Hey all,

Just checking to see if anyone received their shirts from the latest pre-order from last year. Mike sent out an email late last July that shirts are about to go out, but I have not received mine. Emailed him 2 weeks ago and he said it was ready to ship again, but still no shirts.

Today I tried emailing him again and seems the email address no longer exists. I am starting to lose faith... and since the purchase was made last November, I don't think I can dispute the transaction to get my $ back either. So, I might be fucked, I guess...

Somatic I also have not received mine.  I am chalking it up to all the circumstances he mentioned in the e-mail he sent recently and still have faith he will deliver on the shirts the 6/12 pack people paid for.

I got a hold of Uncle Mike on his Batphone.

He says

"I'm very sorry for the delay and lack of communication. I'm in a really rough spot right now, and making 120 shirts out of my van has been very challenging.

My website was shut down and along with it, my email address. I'm almost done with the production - the rest of the shirts will be finished this weekend and they will ship early next week. I'll be emailing tracking info as they get shipped."

Thanks Neil. I guess it was a knee jerk response from the email bouncing back. Now I feel like an asshole doubting him, hope he is doing ok with all that happened lately.

Take care.

So in good news: I received a package from Michael yesterday!

The bad news: it was the wrong shirt.

I've reached out to him on IG to see what the next steps should be.

In the meanwhile, I figured I'd check in with the group and see if anyone else happened to received their order, and whether anyone who ordered the chambray shirt accidentally received the khaki shirt instead. Considering Michael's current situation, it may be more expeditious for me to just execute a trade with the customer who got my shirt by accident.

(By the way, the chambray shirt looks gorgeous, with all the details that we've come to expect from Michael.)
