There's a lot of great information online about Andy Warhol's design for the Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers album cover. But I've often wondered about the Levi's the model is wearing. Is it possible to determine the style using the date and details shown in the photographs?

Here are the back and front covers:

My apologies, for some reason the images aren't displaying. Hopefully this link will work:

Don't know about the Levi's, but Dead Flowers is a helluva song.

It is indeed. Also appropriately enough the song on that album that most demonstrates the Stones' love for U.S. culture.

I don't know if he still lurks / but the music & denim enthusiast 'pabloT' can probably answer this question rather astutely -- and may have already done so over on SuFu , but if you go looking prepare yourself for 3-5 years of LVC sizing questions in the Levis threads

compulsive thrifting of course

Off-set belt-loop at the back narrows it down to the (c)1956- 1966 501XX. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I always assumed they were 501s; Warhol expressed his fondness for them throughout the years. But the zipper...

Also as a correction to my earlier post, the design is attributed to Craig Braun. It was Warhol's concept and photography.

Hi there,

I´m new to this forum, but not new to denim.
As far as I know, the model for the cover was Joe Dallesandro an
actor who did shot several movies with warhol.
And I am pretty sure he is wearing a pair of 551zxx (introduced in 1962 as the first preshrunk zip fly jeans from levis) which on from 1967 became the famous 505.
