Going by what l've seen and read on lg over the last couple of years, the white tab seems to only appear on late wartime Levis and for a few years after.
Think it must be something to do with the dye they used which turned the rayon pinky white. Not sure if they started out white?
CSF did a few runs with this feature.

Ow! i was going to try and persuade him to bid on theses beauties, they're his ideal size.
Keep an eye on these (they were up to 22000 this morning) it'll be interesting to see the sale price.

Thanks Chaz, notice the CSF-esque (Levi's-esque) unfolded selvedge detail?
I'll endorse anything for cash

Well I didn’t leave Tokyo with any big E’s for myself ... but Jack struck lucky in Marvin’s
Got himself another pair of 503zxx but an earlier pair this time ( 54/56 ? ) . Got some time to take a few pics while we’re having a rest from the chaos of Hong Kong Disney land

And some fit pics

Beautiful pair Flash, although beware of any wayward Mcflurries.

When I was in high school (graduated 1964), one fellow usually wore those off-white or cream-color jeans, like in the photos a few posts back. You couldn't wear blue jeans but you could wear those. I saw him again at our 50th high school reunion and he was wearing those off-white jeans still. In fact, he (and a couple of others) looked remarkably unchanged from our high school days.
I haven't seen anyone else wearing wheat jeans for ages.

My first vintage Levi 501 find. I'm hoping these are 50's, but I'm not sure. Here is what I know.

1. no number on waistband button
2. redline selvedge with selvedge coin pocket
3. no printing on pocket bags
4. copper back concealed rear pocket rivets
5. raised letter copper rivet backs on front pockets
6. dark green thread on buttonholes
7. single stitch yellow thread waistband
8. patch was offset from belt loop
9. double sided big E red tab
10.V stitch on waistband

Hope someone can put a date or date range on these. If you need a specific pic, let me know.

Thanks for any help!

Some more pics of jacks collection

hope no one thinks I’m spamming the thread and at least a few people find it interesting

So left to right

503zxx ( 56-57 )   ,   302 ( 70-71 )   ,   503zxx ( 54-56 )

bit more yellow stitching on the smaller pair . I think I’m going to try and condition the patch ( just a little ) on the second pair because it really is like jerky and I want Jack to get a little year out of them before they are too small , wouldn’t want the patch to irritate him if it was too hard

Nice faded red selvedge line , I’m pretty sure these are the same denim but if not there not a kick in the arse off it
