About a week ago, I got a chance to see a Levi piece- from what looks like 1876......my theory for the last few years has been- they didn't put every garment guaranteed or every pair guaranteed on labels until after 1893......we know when they first started using the two horse brand in 1887- up through, sometime after 1893- there were no lot numbers or every garment guaranteed until after 1893- nor did I ever see ads before the 1891 saying every pair or every garment..... So this pant from 1876- has a label that you can read.......and the words every pair guaranteed was on it- so I was wrong about when it first shows up.

It seems that both Real McCoys London and superdenim.co.uk now have copies of The 501XX in stock. A bit spendy at £85 but I've searched fruitlessly for long enough so decided to treat myself.

Me too Charlie. Flash was kind enough to lend me his copy last year, which I then passed on to 00, it's a great book.

Something just to bump this thread.

Found this whilst looking back at old Boon magazines via google, a massive pair of deadstock WW2 Levis with painted arcs (l think owned/was owned by hellerscafe) -

Closer inspection however, reveals the Lot number to be S505XXE ??

Another mystery it seems...

Quite a few printing 'experiments' during Wartime it seems. In the '501XX' book there is a pair of s501xxA so there must have been a few others?

Maybe it is a mis-stamp of s506 xxE?
