For what it is worth, you can buy an N4 around $150 shipped.

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.4-c-s.w4004-14713907199.4.6dfa517cWEgwnJ&id=521629506734

I know which I would buy - but, hey, it's your money

The eastman N-4 seems to look a lot like the original. And without a doubt well made.
The originals are still very easy to find, and for decent prices also.
So if you want a brand spanking new one get an eastman, if you want a well worn one go to ebay..
Can’t say anything about the taobao repro, other than that it looks short and the zipper is ‘reversed’

I agree with Ongaku that the Eastman has the original style down to pat which would better soothe my attention to detail, OCD.

I do own an original 1940's N4 which I had worn often as a liner, however now even more frailed due to its age thus me wanting to go with a newer one.

That's cool. As I said, it's your money!

The price difference is huge - around $600 - and I'm a Yorkshireman - so that figure hurts me.

Eastman, who used to (IMHO) offer great value prices, have, over the last couple of years, gone way upmarket with their prices.

I guess they thought "if we can't beat the Japanese, we may as well join them". Good luck to them.

For me, Japanese pricing is largely becoming ludicrous, especially when I am told that some "Japanese" stuff is merely "finished" in Japan, having had most of the manufacturing done in countries with far lower production costs.

So, you pays your money, and takes your choice. Good luck with the N4

I hear ya on the exponential rise on pricing. Its that law of supply and demand that we all on this board contribute to one way or the other.

Back to the Eastman N4.. Likely I will, yet holding back a bit as I wanted to see more 'wear photos' before going for it. The color, the cut, details seems right.. we'll see. Cheers!

^Been eyeing up that coat on lg, l used to have one identical to this back in the early 1990's - very warm and versatile with a crazy amount of pockets.
Nice pick up.

It really is a great piece, and it's getting interest from people left and right on the level of Kramer's mythical jacket.

Too bad it's overkill for Taiwan (save the high, high mountains). I won't be able to test if it's possessed by the Kavorka or not!:)
