I posted this years before, here it is again- the pistol pocket.
A pistol pocket story, wrote in the 1870's, was way more extreme...
Than the one your about to read.

When i find the 1870's PP story, I'll post it.

as a base for the brand, then wonder off with all the other stuff, I run into the owner at the Rose Bowl- don't want to say too much...just some original designs would at least make me interested in the brand.

No worries. It's nothing personal. The guy has a right to his own vision & the fact that he's lasted some years must mean that he has generated adequate clientele. It's just not for guys like us who crave the vibe of the original brand.

On a blog that I read that is mostly about preppy clothing, I read the same thing. Readers wonder why manufacturers and retailers aren't still selling the same things they sold in 1965.

I told the story about when shopping for a car for our daughter, we looked at a Volvo V-70 wagon that had a manual transmission. I thought that was very unusual and I mentioned it to the salesman. He said they don't sell. Anyway, my daughter didn't like it because it was a 'mom car.'

More to the point, however, it is remarkable that there are still a few things that were available in 1965 that are in fact still available, more or less the same, although they aren't selling in large numbers. Changes in production technology and costs, not to mention consumer tastes (or lack of) are the main reasons are at least a little different now. In workwear, for instance, when did you last see anyone wearing those matched work outfits that seemed to be the standard in the 40s, 50s and on into the 60s? I think blue jeans are much more common now but bib overalls less so.

The thing that jacked my jaw with The Stronghold was the feeling of being misled by the tease of old timey fabrics, cinch backs, vintage vibe graphics only to find after making the pilgrimage to the store that those elements were grafted onto silly low rise fashion fits. Also there was a stick-like-glue, over zealous sales lady who made me uncomfortable.

There’s a lot to be said off the record.
