CSL, I had a chance to try on the breeches today.

I'm a 32w in FW. But the 32w breeches fit such that, as you suspected, my knee was being pulled down into the skinny taper. An impossible fit.

The 34w fit well below the knee. But the waist was pretty big, for me. And, moreover, the already voluminous top block of the fitted waist 32 became too much on the 34w........

Unfortunate. I'd like a pair of breeches too.

Thanks for the report, Ishmael.
Shame they don't make them in different length options.
I had considered having a pair made but I doubt if I'll ever really get round to it...

I put in a request for some gaijin length breeches.

If you were to make a pair, would you have them made from scratch or alter existing pants?

Thanks, Ishmael. Being 6ft 3 I won't hold my breath…

If I were going to have a pair made I'd have it done from scratch. Probably take in a couple of vintage pairs for reference plus photos of some of the details on the FW models.

Yeah, I guess if you want an actual pair of breeches (versus just a heavy taper) you'd have to start from scratch.

That sounds like a very exciting project. I'd love to see what you could come up with.

I came across these the other day. They seem to have a pretty simple pattern.

And just in case you needed more motivation/inspiration, there's always this guy.

I'm thinking of going for one of the FW non-breeches but heavy tapered models, either the McBain or Hayden.

Yes. Those are cool. I have a couple of pairs here, a brown corduroy Mule Brand that were deadstock before a rodent got to them…& a khaki pair that I picked up thinking of the project we are discussing. Maybe I will get around to it after all..
In any case the McBain & Hayden look interesting as does most of FW stuff.
