Otherwise, what are others favourite FW chino-style options, especially for one on the tallish (186cm) side?

Yeah, I’d suggest Bakeheads are slightly slimmer than Neals
I can’t make a case for the FW HBT over other brands. I can say they are a nice pair of chinos and wear nicely. The colour fades in a way I like, but in honesty there’s a fair chance the fabric has also been used by othe Japanese brands. Regarding the Timeworn chinos - are they sold as washed or unwashed? Perhaps you’re comparing fabrics at different stages of their life? |

Thanks Duke!
Yeah, I am pretty sure the TW are unwashed, so I’m comparing two different things in that sense. I guess I like the idea of the unwashed TW reflecting my own wear and tear like raw denim does, but that’s not to say I don’t like the FWs so was trying to canvas opinion. I realise that at the end of the day preferences are totally subjective rather than objective. |

No problem - and as you say I can only give my opinion (the whole purpose of this forum really) - which in itself only has the value you yourself might want to attribute
I try to stay away from promoting FW because much as I love the brand they, in a broad sense, are not better (or worse) than Timeworn, Warehouse, Stevenson, Sugar Cane or any of the many other brands here on DB. That’s not to say I’m ignoring some of the tricks, shortcuts and even downright unsavoury methods adopted by some of those companies because in the end most folks just want to get the clothes they like best - so if you like FW then good and enjoy your purchase but the same stands for pretty much anyone else. Equally, I don’t really respect the culture of ‘raw’ (because denim and other fabrics are rarely that) and ‘rugged’ (because with the same rarity as you’ll see true raw denim will you see truly rugged wearers of it) It’s all a bit too pretentious (which clearly excludes my posing in photos) to be given credit |

Thanks Duke, I greatly value your opinion and I’m sure most others on here do as well. This side of my wardrobe leans heavily towards TW (3 jeans, 1 chino, 1 denim jacket and 4 shirts) and FWs (1 jeans, 6 shirts - I didn’t mention my summer CPO overshirt and CPO chambray earlier also both size 17, some tees) compared to the other brands you mention where I only have one or two pieces from each. I think I try to prioritise buying these two brands wherever possible to be honest because to me they feel somehow more special.
I’m genuinely really interested in the shortcuts, dirty tricks and unsavory methods you refer to, if you have time and care to elaborate (either here or in a PM). |

As for your ruggedness comment, I see where you’re coming from as I’m not a rugged guy - I work in an office, I don’t ride a motorcycle, I can’t even grow a cool beard! Yet I typically value own wear and tear more than pre-distressed.

@Terminator While I only have 3 pairs of FW trousers in various cotton fabrics, I do have the Timeworn military trousers and like them very much. Fabric definitely isn't washed, and some of the details are different from the FW 42s, mostly the buttons. I've found most of my TWC pants slightly fuller cut than FW if that makes a difference but I enjoy both brands.

You’re very kind T - but that’s not necessary
Sounds like you have a good array of clothes. Get them posted up here - it’s time others took the lead in hauling back Double 0 Soul in the posting stakes ... pictures get a minimum of double thanks in my book just for the extra effort alone over simple one line comments That aside I have no doubt you are fairly confident in your own decisions and with sizing so do share that knowledge - an extra viewpoint is a lot better than folk only reading my drivel The shortcuts et al can perhaps wait until another day - I wasn’t trying to generate intrigue and I certainly don’t want to upset other breeds of fanboy (unnecessarily), just explaining rationale ... however, shortcuts might include the reuse of patterns or parts thereof to fool the blind into buying a ‘new’ product; or perhaps some sharp selling might encourage you to buy an item for twice the price of a similar item of the same fabric but with a different label; or when expanding your business (brand) you might necessarily have to witness larger stores strongarm smaller outlets - the list is long and not uncommon in various business streams but the gushing praise for (and from) some tells me these are never genuine considerations when a ‘bro is fixed on his prize (other than the token ‘don’t buy Chinese’ bluster) |

And one because despite being at friends with a terrible hangover, which babies don’t respect, the early morning light is perfect to show the colour of the jacket accurately
Sorry about the distortion (bloating) - I only had the wide angle lens ... it’s honestly not my beer belly Edited by Duke - 17 Mar 2019 at 6:48am |
