I have just started reading "The China Study" about the consequences of an affluent (Western) diet on society. Not my choice, given to me by a friend who usually shares my taste in books.

CSL- Have you seen the Werner Herzog docu Little Dieter Needs to Fly? i think you will enjoy it immensely. Leave the film playing after the gredits for the tear jerker moment, hankies at the ready.

It will only complement the paint, sheep shit, campfire ash, sawdust, printing ink, toothpaste... ect
They are a rich and varied pallette.
