I can't imagine they'd be that cheap, but who knows. I'd assume maybe changing manufactures, and the equipment used in production possibly made them narrower? You're right though, the belt loops on my '37s from 2007 are between 1/16th to 1/8th inch wider than my jeans from 2008 onward ('44, '47, '55 & '66).

Thanks for that Chris. Could you post some measurements of that pair? Always wanted to know how they sized. I would imagine true to tag.
The cut looks good for '66'. What's the leg-opening measurement? Sorry to hassle.
Great post btw!

i've been thinking about the 201's a lot recently and finally went and tried em on. i like the feel and weight of the denim and the cut is about what i was aiming for.
i've got a few questions, whats the denim ware pattern like is there anything i should look out for historically incorrect? basically why shouldn't i get these? this is going to be my first jump into a cut like this where i've usually been wearing more modern 54 66 style cuts any help/guidance much appreciated

To help answer your question, the 20's 201 is a tough beast to break-in. If you want fast fades then forget it - these jeans need commitment. It takes twice as long to break in these, say compared to the '37's.
All 201's produced are accounted for, i.e. there were batches made in 1999, 2005, 2007, 2010 and now 2012. All are pretty much histoically accurate except the infamous "wrong arcs" model (2005), which had twin needle stitching instead of single needle (see begining of this thread for a pic).
You shouldn't get these if you dont want a slow fading jean, which has a navy-esque cut (the jeans tend to hang or drape in that way) rather than more 'fitted' cut.
You should get these jeans if you want some of the nicest denim produced by cone, on a pair of the most accurate repro Levis to date!
With these, dont size up too much! IMO you want to have a half-to one inch over your waist size max! I would buy your actual size, then cold wash/soak them, as there is little shrinkage (some but little).

I thought the denim on the 201s was produced in Japan (Kurabo) rather than by Cone. Has this changed now?

Not sure who made the denim for the current 201. I think Paul T said it's from Japan, but I'm pretty sure the 201s have a Cone Denim hang tag on them (but so does everything from LVC nowadays, including my 50's sport shirt).

i'm pretty sure it was an imported japanese denim for the 201 late 90s early 2000 not sure about 2005 issue but apparently cone are making the denim for the latest 201 from what i have heard.

I was under the impression it was the 1922 model- backdating to the earliest, that was kurabo made. I may be wrong, but I thought I remember a conversation about these in a thread in another popular forum. Pablo T is the man in the know, for sure.
I'm sticking with 'made at Cone' until proved otherwise.
