I'd call them leggings rather than puttees. I'd bet most of those in the photos were ex-army.
 
I also noticed in the photos on the previous page several men wearing small oblong or oval belt buckles. I didn't see any wearing the wider garrison-type belt like often shows up in old movies.

Blue train, my Father-in-law has told me back in his days, civil war
tents were still easy to obtain, I can only imagine what military surplus
places would have been like, back in the 50's

Bannerman's in New York was advertising real Civil War surplus in the 1950s. Locally, "Army-Navy" stores sold military surplus but mostly new work clothing.

Me too- such a big patch on a little pair of overalls, I was thinking that big rooster on the can’t bust em, but not the right shape.

Hard to say who made that jacket- looks like a dart stitch type pocket, looks like a design stitch also?
