Not that I’d retained any real expectation of tact coming from you after these last few pages Mr. R, but: “cunt” has a much less cute ring to it coming from an American than from a Brit; it’s not a great look

Off topic, I know, but if we’re calling each other out for every little thing…

Y'know Carl, i said we were over-moderated but i was clearly wrong.

Get Ongaku on the case, in the last 12 months ive been in a Mariachi band.. a 1960's Mexican drug cartel..I think i can pull off a Deathmatch
I'll endorse anything for cash

This thread is for addressing the forums’s overall well-being and continued existence.

Anyone who hasn’t done so may still chime in- people who have already had their say- move on to another thread and topic.

I have been a steady visitor to Denimbro since I followed a link here to the (deleted) Christophe Loiron interview that was posted on SuFu in ~2012. Seems longer, but in a good way.

I found the Sufu forum not too long before that, and continue to visit with the same frequency as Denimbro. Based on visiting both sites consistently for all these years, usually multiple times a day, I think that the concerns about the level of participation on Denimbro are unwarranted. Both sites have been on the wane recently as far as in-depth discussion. Sufu benefits (I guess) from a larger amount of sizing angst and the daily “lookit' my latest purchase" posts from a handful of avid users.

Sufu also caters to a wider audience. Partly because it is more proximal to the compulsively consumerist and approval-thirsty streetwear scene. The Superdenim forum is also fed by their larger, more international and more commercially driven complex of Superfuture properties.

If anything, I think that Denimbro is doing better in terms of quality and quantity/effort. Among the highest quality posters that have been around since 2012, in terms of posting things that are of specific interest to me, or otherwise in terms of the care that they put into their posts, most are on Denimbro, some are on SuFu as well, and some are long gone from both. Sufu exclusives are very rare: Tender/William Kroll is the only one that comes to mind.

Personalities are always a mixed bag, but I think that Denimbro generally maintains a high quality of discourse. I'm yet another 40-something US or UK male, so maybe that colors these answers:

- do you think DB is still relevant and can continue to be so?

Yes.

- what personal gain do you receive from interacting on the forum?

N/A (I don't interact)

- does the marketplace serve as a useful resource for you?

No.

- do you feel the site balance between information and personality content is acceptable?

Yes.

- do you have any concerns about bullying? Do you feel dismissed or condescended to by any particular members with problematic frequency? No names or specifics need be mentioned.

I think the accusations of cliquishness and snobbery on Denimnro are bullshit. Is this an issue beyond people who don't like the exchange rate that they are getting for their Sufu rep?

People pushing their jeggings Kickstarter, or hoping to spark a lively discussion about acid wash don't get what they are looking for, but is this a problem to solve? Either someone is going to tell them up-front that they are in the wrong place, or their threads are going to be ignored (and some will attribute this to elitism).

Generally, I think that people get the reaction that they should expect. If this is the place where that expectation finally takes root, so be it.

I will say that some of the moderation has seemed personal at times, and thus counterproductive. Some primary contributors have been run off for long stretches, seemingly over personal disputes rather than significant transgressions of the forum guidelines. I don't see how this benefits the forum at large.

- are you an even-tempered, thoughtful person who would be willing to act as a moderator?

Not when the internet is involved.

A more general and less site specific question-

- do denim specific clothing fora still have an audience in the post peak heritage era?

Yes. It was here before what is popular now, and will still be here when that stuff is so many particles in the great Pacific ocean plastic patch.

I hope that Denimbro is allowed to develop as it has been so far.

I don't post because I don't really have anything to add. I’m not in a position to patronize the brands here, and don't really aspire too. I'm not a vintage guy and don't really buy clothes in general. But I do appreciate and admire what many of these brands are creating, and I am grateful to, and interested in the perspective of the people who do.
