I feel that there are some gaps in my collection on weaving, chemistry and dyestuff - maybe I'll close some of these gaps in the future... |

I thought my shelves were weighty. I remember when those history of a color books came out. I almost got them, but I had just picked up the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili and had completely blown my book budget for awhile.
I also remember seeing that zipper book and meaning to get it, but putting it off. Then it disappeared and hadn't seen it since. |

There was a short series of superb yet disturbing documentaries a
couple of years ago on the BBC regarding Britain's hand in the slave
trading of cotton, indigo, tobacco, sugar ect. Episode 2
regarding slave ownership, abolition, compensation and future investment of such in our infrastructure is
here albeit the audio is slow so David's voice sounds a bit odd. This is well worth an hour of your day! One of the
other episodes highlights Lancashire's cotton industry and its support of slave owners in the south
up to and during the civil war. There's a clip here but you'll have to dig
around dailymotion (or the dark recesses of the internet) for the full episode. |
