Rrrrrrolling stock!  Died and gone to heaven for four hours.
Beautiful shots, CSL, I'm so jealous.  You and 00 have been doing the most amazing stuff lately.
That's two times in the past week that I wished this forum offered "Smell-o-Rama".  I love the oily scent of steam trains and, mixed with a pine forest, it's the stuff of blissful Proustian reverie.
Fashion-wise, it's your jacket that seals the deal for me.

Thanks, EaseDownTheRoad & HP!

You're right. Those locomotives do have a nice, evocative aroma to them. There is an open car on that train for those who really want to get the cinders in their hair. Since it was a wet & chilly day I opted to stay in the closed car, opening the window occasionally.

I've taken that train ride twice, all the way to Silverton.  Last time was when I was a teenager, and I certainly wasn't as well-dressed as you, CSL.  Beautiful scenery in that part of the country.

Thanks! This was my 2nd time on it. Never been all the way to Silverton though. How long does it take to get there, Haler?

If I recall, it was over three hours.  Been about 20 years since I've taken it though.

Amazing shots from Soul and CSL as usual.
They are carrying this thread big time.

Soul's post takes me back to my childhood summers in Vermont when I used to catch frogs in various ponds with my uncle. Thanks for the nostalgia!

A sunday afternoon foraging
The river banks are carpeted with wild garlic, the aroma can be a little overpowering at times.

Its so abundant at this time of year nobody in the UK has to buy garlic bulbs between March and June

At its most pungent/flavoursome when the buds are just about to flower.

Im going to make a pesto

Checked that the silver birch trees had stopped leaking sap

For the main course, young bulrush stems
Last seasons crop

Give them a good yoink!

Eaten young like this they taste like a cross between cucumber and palm heart

20 mins work

Off to the pub...

...for a hot chocolate a pint of white rabbit and some scampi fries.

I can't hope to compete with Double0 in this thread, but I got to watch my dogs try to steal Illumin8em's lunch on a lovely day in Oregon yesterday...
