Ive just found the minutes from LVC marketing departments brainstorming session on LickiLeaks.com

CEO- We've found this left hand denim from the 70's and i suggest that we make an accurate repro in a authentic cut that will appeal to everyone but we need a reason to charge $350 so im 'reaching out' for suggestions?

Make them limited?

That goes without saying, nothing good was ever available to everyone at a reasonable price.

Mess up the sizing?

Been done

Put the selvedge on the outside?

Too ridiculous

Stitch the pocket bags on the outside?

Hmmm No

Call them Mirror Jeans and you get a free mirror in a custom designed 'mirror' pocket?

I like the name but that sounds like too much hard work

Ok, what about if we reverse the patch and tab? but make them perfect in every other respect?

Yess brilliant, that just fucks them up enough to make people know this is LVC

^ln agreement with the Mirror jeans being up there with the Bing tux jean, and the banner jeans. But the regular 1976 501 model looks excellent going by the recent links and of course Mr randal's fit pic.

I agree Doc_ the cut/fit on mr randal is golden.
Do you think that it would be considered too much of a radical business model for LVC to simply pull a pair of jeans from their archives, make a reasonable copy of them and retail them at a price point half way between current rrp and actual sale price?
History tells us this is what the customer wants.

Well thank you, Doc & O2!

Hmmmn. Tough room.

I've not been a fan of all of LVCs more fanciful productions, but I do generally find them interesting. The banner jeans and 501s always put me in mind of an outfit Edina Monsoon would wear, plus a rakishly tilted BOY hat, some leopard print stacked trainers, and a Flavor Flav watch necklace. The bing tux was perfectly reasonable for LVC to do, though the exposed selvedge "tux" jeans were naturally dead on arrival with this crowd.

At Inspiration LVC had a scaled down display with only the 76, the mirror jeans, and a small series of op art printed Spikes on display. It was cool examining all the reversed details in the side by side 76s & mirrors.
They also had a set of bearded twins wearing a pair of each and had installed a small hall of mirrors to wander.

I think the release is in keeping with LVCs quirkiness- they've always had an experimental bent that has at times transformed oily old rags into edgily awkward haute couture, made puns into wearable garments, or given the opportunity for delighted outrage.

To me the 'experimental' jeans LVC puts out are the jean equivalent of what Nike does with sneakers. Since raw denim really only comes in one color all of their new 'styles' have to come in the form of random tweaks to the same jean.  I legitimately wonder if there are more colorways of the Jordan I or more versions of the 501.

An early LVC '37 & Homerun T I found while thrifting this week. I was really excited to find the T especially- I've wanted one for years and never have spotted one.
Really nice wash on the '37- a Bart Sites wash (I think) that would fool 95% of the populace.

Nice find Mr R^^^
I've seen a shirt that LVC is putting out in the fall- a year or so ago- I showed a picture that was cut out of the final edition of Non riveted' book- American overalls.....The picture was a champion boxer in 1908, the boxer was hanging out a day before the championship Match in Goldfield Nevada- he's wearing a striped sweater that I have to get ahold of......so it looks like LVC will have this sweater/shirt in their fall collection. I would show this picture if it was mine- but it's not......and I would probably catch so heat if I posted it.

Love it^

Ow! this was my first spark of excitement from LVC for many a'year (could you sense my disappointment?) they've ruined something potentially great with a cheap gimmick.
I like quirky experiments but with LVC they always seem ill conceived more like a last minute result of a marketing meeting rather than a well thought out back to the drawing board concept, there not avant'garde just a gimmicky-repro. Take the banner that we all love to hate if they would have used it for a radical new concept piece it would have been a lot more acceptable, rather than alienated the purists and the fashionistas simultaneously.
Comparing their 'experiments' to Sugar Cane, SC had a line of true repro's Wrangler/Levis/Lee for those that wanted them and a separate entity of Rainbow, 50/50, Edo Ai, Persimmon, Green Tea, Mud ect kept separate never claiming to be 'repro' even though they carried key features hence never annoying the purists.
Levi's Red was often bizarre yet forward-looking and at least it was a complete 'well thought out' design concept and a damned sight more influential in its day rather than this lets make a repro and gimmick it up to justify the asking price LVC method.

The cut of those LVC37's look great, a lot less material around the lower leg than my SC37's, if i cropped them short they'd be blowing in the wind.
