Post all your redlines and  little 'e' jackets here -

Deadstock 1978-81 Levis 501's -

Are these 501s still in your possession Doc?  I love the denim in my LVC '78s, but not a huge fan of the cut.  I can't believe the rise was as low as LVC portrays it.  I'd have to double check, but IIRC the front rise on my size 38s is 12" with all the shrinkage out.
I got a rocket in my pocket and roll in my jeans

i had some deadstock late 70s levis for a bit a couple of years ago (sold 'em in the end cause i didn't wear them and didn't love the fit) - the rise wasn't particularly high or low.

@Setterman - yes, still have them.  You need measurements to compare?  They say 35x38 but measure 34" IIRC. Will dig them out if you need any info.
Looked at the '78's in detail, both online images and in-store (Cinch, Classics, Son of a stag) and they are very different.
But then in fairness to Lvc - that model ran for three years at least ('78-81) before the next significant change.

[edit] Here are the measurements:

waist across laid flat/untouched = 17", and pulled taught (not tight) = 17.5"
Front rise = 12.5"
Back rise = 16"
Inseam = 36.5
Thigh (measured straight across from crotch) = 13"
Knee = 10"
Hem = 9"

This is the era I like. Most of the denim made in the USA, Talon 42's and Scovills still in evidence and the last of the original redlines. Also, being UK based, there are some nice weather gear hiking jackets made in their native countries, with 'outsourcing' a thing of the future, and original sneakers and boots available if you look and dig hard enough...

Got to be vintage zipper, Made in USA, and nice stitching

Today's lower limb attire was a pair of late 70s/early 80s grey polyester 517s with a Scovill zipper

These are early 1980's small e 501's - or what's left of them. Bought them originally in the high school and at the time it was customary to throw them in the washer and drier every day (!?). They were worn that way in the Arizona sun propably over one school year. Then further worn and finally made into cutoffs. Lately my wife's been wearing them in the Summer Cabin.

I think I managed to take couple closeups that shows the state of the fabric.

Too much Denim - too little time...

Yes that would be super.  If I had the time and the resources to undertake such a task then it would be a wonderful thing indeed to behold.  But it's not going to happen.

Most of what I know (and I've probably forgotten half of it) was learned from handling original denim clothing 25 years ago.  I used to belong to sufu and bored everyone to death - reeling off stuff and showing pics from reference books ..etc. So trawl through the levi's threads over there and read through them.  It's a very large subject.

My advice to start you off - try here:

Ha - just saw this again!
Well Eric, don't know if you still visit here, but I've had a go at the jeans bit for ya -

Big smile
